Top male roles are filled by Jack Mullaney, Will Hutchins, Warren Berlinger, Jimmy Hawkins and Carl Betz. Also featured are Cecil Kellaway and Una Merkel. “SPINOUT” HAS ELVIS SURROUNDED BY BIKINI-CLAD BEAUTIES (Announcement Story ) Producer Joe Pasternak cornered the Hollywood market on pulchritude for Elvis Presley’s new Metro-GoldwynMayer picture, ‘“Spinout,”’ and you never saw so many beautiful girls swinging to the catchy rhythms of Elvis’ songs as are on display (most often in bikinis) in this romping, action-filled and laugh-loaded entertainment in Panavision and color. Elvis really gets the works in a film that spells FUN all the way. This time, he has not one leading lady but—count *em—four glamour queens, Shelley Fabares, Diane McBain, Deborah Walley and Dodie Marshall, chasing pell-mell after the world’s most elusive bachelor. Shelley is the pert, spoiled daughter of a millionaire auto manufacturer, who always gets what she wants, and she wants Elvis, leader of a touring combo. Diane is a best-selling author, research Elvis Presley accompanies a swinging Dodie Marshall in “‘Spinout,”’ in which Elvis is on the run from a bevy of manchasing beauties. Co-starred in the big cast of the new MGM Panavision and color attraction are Shelley Fabares, Deborah Walley, Diane McBain, Jack Mullaney, Will Hutchins, Warren Berlinger, Jimmy Hawkins, Una Merkel, Cecil Kellaway and Carl Betz. The film introduces a parade of new melodies. Deborah is the cute drummer in Elvis’ band, whose heart is drumming for the boss. While Dodie Marshall ends up as the latest beauty to try to corral Elvis into matrimony. Ina series of hilarious and song-filled situations, our hero manages to eat his cake and have it, too. Does he marry any of these man-hungry beauties? Why, sure he does. He marries ’em all. How’s that again? Well, you'll have to see “Spinout’” to find out how Elvis pulls that trick. Along with the story’s romantic involvements, there’s a highlight climactic sequence in which Elvis comes out the winner in as suspenseful and exciting an auto race over mountain roads and turns as you have seen on the screen in some time. It is going to keep the viewer on the edge of his seat. PRESLEY ROLES AN EDUCATION’ When a girl works in an Elvis Presley picture, she has to do more than just gaze adoringly at Elvis while he croons his latest love song. His new MGM_ romantic-action comedy, “Spinout,” is a case in point. Playing leading feminine roles in the picture are Shelley Fabares, Deborah Walley and Dodie Marshall. What new talents did they have to acquire ? Deborah and Dodie had to take drum lessons from a professional for scenes in which they tap out the beat with a band. And Shelley had to learn to drive a racing car, a feat which she was taught by former racing driver Bruce Kessler. Carl Betz, who portrayed Donna Reed’s husband on television for eight years, now plays a multi-millionaire daddy in Elvis Presley’s new MGM romantic-comedy, ‘“Spinout.” And if his daughter looks a bit like his daughter in the television series, it’s not too surprising. In “‘Spinout,”’ she is played by Shelley Fabares, the same girl who sat across the breakfast table from Betz while Donna fried the eggs! As always in a Presley film, the star introduces a flock of happy songs, and “Spinout” offers such attractive melodies as “Stop, Look, Listen,” “Tl Be Back,” “All That I Am,” “Never Say Yes,” “Am I Ready” and the catchy title song. Together with the bevy of leading ladies, the large cast co-stars Jack Mullaney, Will Hutchins, Warren Berlinger, Jimmy Hawkins, Una Merkel, Cecil Kellaway and Carl Betz. , Norman Taurog directed Presley for the sixth time in “Spinout.” The film, written by Theodore J. Flicker and George Kirgo marks the star’s tenth anniversary in motion pictures, and it is one no Presley fan will want to miss. It is the one-and-only Elvis in top form! MAYBE IT’S LOVE Deborah Walley literally beats a drum for combo leader Elvis Presley in his new MGM romantic comedy, ‘‘Spinout.”’ Also adding pulchritude to the lilting story of an entertainer on the run from matrimony are Shelley Fabares, Diane McBain and Dodie Marshall. Still 1845-48 E Spinout Mat 1-C PRESLEY'S FOUR LOVELIES SPEAK FROM THE HEART “<Spinout’ was the pleasantest experience of my film career so far,” says Shelley Fabares. Deborah Walley echoes with, “I had more fun filming this picture than any I’d ever done before.” Diane McBain adds, “It was a real education.” And, according to Dodie Marshall, “I almost felt guilty in accepting my salary. A girl ought to pay to work with Elvis!” The four glamorous actresses were selected by MGM to portray Elvis Presley’s leading ladies in his 22nd motion picture. Shelley Fabares previously worked with the star in “Girl Happy,” but it was the first time for the other three young pros. “The first film was a memorable experience,” states Shelley, “but ‘Spinout’ was even more enjoyable. There’s always a lot of rush and confusion on a sound stage, but everyone is so friendly and helpful on a Presley movie. He is so well mannered that it becomes contagious. You find yourself saying “Thank you’ to the wardrobe woman, then she says ‘Thank you’ and it creates a happy atmosphere. “Elvis sent all the girls roses on the first day of filming. He knew I was recently married and presented me with a marvelous cook book. When he saw a cartoon he thought I would enjoy, he framed it for me. He simply awes us alle? Presley’s sense of humor impressed Deborah Walley. She says, “Actors A bikini-clad Shelley Fabares thinks she is in the lead in the matrimonial race for Elvis Presley in his lilting MGM ro mantic comedy, ‘‘Spinout.’’ However, Shelley has some formidable rivals in the new Panavision and color attraction in Deborah Walley, Diane McBain and Dodie Marshall. Still 1845-64 E Spinout Mat 1-E. often work under tension. But when Elvis relaxes, he is so funny it relaxes everyone else. We loved to gather around him and just listen to him talk.” Diane McBain declared acting with Elvis kept her on her toes. “I’ve never seen anyone work quite so hard,” she declares. “Between scenes he usually retires to his dressing room to rehearse the next song or study his dialogue. He strives for perfection and you have to prepare a little harder to keep up with him.” Perhaps Dodie Marshall, making her screen debut with Elvis after success in nightclubs and television, was the most awed of all. “There is something about that man that just makes you glow,” she enthuses. “I’ve worked with handsome and charming performers before without having been particularly carried away—but that Elvis! He is in a class by himself.” After working with Presley in “Spinout,” would the four actresses like to do another film with the star? “Let’s put it this way,” Deborah said. “Elvis’ next picture takes place in a European setting.
