ROBERT VAUGHN AND DAVID McCALLUM STAR IN DUAL-PROGRAM THRILLERS, “THE SPY WITH MY FACE” AND “TO TRAP A SPY” Moviegoers are offered a double-dosage of suspense and thrills with the double-bill program of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “The Spy With My Face” and “To Trap a Spy,” two slam-bang adventures in color. Both pictures star Robert Vaughn and David McCallum—the world’s two most famous U.N.C.L.E.s. “The Spy With My Face” also has beautiful Senta Berger, named by U.S. movie exhibitors as a Top Star of Tomorrow, and Leo G. Carroll; with “To Trap a Spy” featuring special guest star Luciana Paluzzi and Patricia Crowley. “The Spy With My Face” revolves around the formula for a weapon so powerful that the future of the world is at stake. THRUSH, a band of murderous renegades who will stop at noth (Announcement Story ) ing to rule the world, are determined to obtain this new weapon for their own evil purposes. How their scheme is thwarted by Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn), top agent for U.N.C.L.E,, and Ilya Kuryakin (David McCallum) in thrilling action, climaxed by a bulletridden chase through the Swiss Alps, makes for an adventure which will hold the viewer on the edge of his seat. Equally hair-raising is “To Trap a Spy,” in which WASP, a world-wide crime-for-hire syndicate, plans to take over Western Natumba, a newly-freed African nation, by assassinating its Premier Ashumen when he visits the Vulcan Chemical plant. This plot is thwarted by the courage and ingenuity of Napoleon Solo and a young house wife, Elaine (Patricia Crowley), with David McCallum, as the Russian-born master spy Ilya Kuraykin, and Luciana Paluzzi, as Angela, the beautiful WASP agent, playing a dramatic part in the outcome. The thrilling climax, in which Napoleon and Elaine are chained to a steam pipe in a locked tunnel under which a reactor has been prepared for a deadly explosion, is one of the most suspenseful and terrifying ever devised for a movie thriller, “The Spy With My Face” was produced by Sam Rolfe and directed by John Newland from a screenplay by Clyde Ware and Joseph Calvelli. “To Trap a Spy” was produced by Norman Felton and directed by Don Medford, and was written by Sam Rolfe. GAVE HER GLAMOR, THEN RUINED IT! Patricia Crowley is one actressmother who believes wives should be seen and heard. Currently starring with Robert Vaughn and David McCallum in “To Trap a Spy,” Miss Crowley plays a character very similar to her real-life role of wife, and mother of two small children. With one exception. In “To Trap a Spy” she plays a typical housewife who is literally plucked out of her pleasant domesticity and because of her innocent appearance finds herself cast in the dangerous role of an international spy. Miss Crowley found her cloak-anddagger role in “To Trap a Spy” on the rugged side, “T was all set for one of those glamorous roles all actresses yearn for,” she said. “They decked me out in more than $100,000 worth of furs, jewels and stunning gowns and spent hours on my hairdo. Then they proceeded to drench me with water, involve me in a knockdown brawl with a mob of nasties, and topped that by nearly blowing me up in a gas explosion! “My wardrobe woman and_hairdresser were close to tears when they saw me afterwards, but I must admit the whole thing looks marvelous on film.” With the completion of her “master spy” role, Miss Crowley reverted back to her off-screen life of glamorous mother—at least for the time being. SEX AND SUSPENSE David McCallum and Jennifer Billingsley form the romantic duo of **The Spy With My Face.”’ also starring Robert Vaughn and Senta Berger. The thriller is paired with ‘*To Trap a Spy,”’ also starring Vaughn and McCallum — the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s—in MGM’s dual-program of slambang spy adventures in color. The Spy With My Face Still 6011-62 E Mat 1-D 10 ROBERT VAUGHN AND U.N.C.L.E. HAVE BECOME SYNONYMOUS FAMILIAR NAMES For someone who was practically born and raised with a pool cue in his hands, Robert Vaughn has maintained a respectable reputation as one of Hollywood’s “hustling” young actors. “When I was a kid in the midwest there wasn’t much to do except to learn how to become a good pool player,” says Vaughn. “In fact, if I hadn’t been born into an acting family, there’s no doubt in my mind that I would have become a pool hustler. I’m not so sure that it couldn’t be even more challenging than acting.” Robert Vaughn shoots it out in “To Trap a Spy,”’ also starring David McCallum. The thriller is paired with “‘The Spy With My Face,” also starring Vaughn and McCallum — the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s—with Senta Berger, in MGM’s dual program of exciting, slam-bang spy adventures in color. To Trap A Spy Still Solo-86 VAUGHN'S BATTLE WITH “HIMSELF”! Mat 1-C When Robert Vaughn enacted his role in “The Spy With My Face,” he had occasion to remember one of his mother’s admonitions—““There will be days like this.” In the MGM cloak-and-dagger adventure, also starring David McCallum, Vaughn plays the dual role of an U.N.C.L.E. agent and his mortal enemy. Via trick photography, he winds up in a free-for-all battle with himself ! “The Spy With My Face” is being shown on a dual-program with “To Trap a Spy,’ another spine-tingling thriller, also starring Vaughn and McCallum — America’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E-s, Vaughn currently stars with David McCallum and Senta Berger in MGM’s exciting spy-thriller, “The Spy With My Face.” Also on the program, again with Vaughn and McCallum—the world’s two most famous U.N.C.L.E.s—is “To Trap a Spy,” another thriller to hold the viewer on the edge of his seat. Vaughn claims that he finds acting child’s play. His father was the late radio personality, Walter Vaughn, and his mother was Margaret Gaudel, who won note as a Broadway actress. His grandparents were also in the theatre. Bob came out to Hollywood in 1952 when he enterted Los Angeles State College as a drama major and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree. “When I first started acting professionally,” he says, “I wound up with more villain roles than you could shake a gun at. But it didn’t seem to give me a special identity. People would come up to me in a restaurant and say, ‘I know you, don’t 1?’ Then they’d call ie everything from Lew Ayres to Robert Taylor, I figured I’d better not only make a name for myself but also make sure the public knew whose face belonged to the name!” The public knows now, alright, since this celebrated U.N.C.L.E. has become a household name in practically every part of the globe. On top of having appeared in some 300 television shows, he also won an Academy Award nomination for his outstanding performance in “The Young Philadelphians.” FAVORITE U.N.C.L.E.s IN TWO SPY HITS David McCallum and Robert Vaughn — the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s — star in MGM’s double-bill of excitement, ‘*The Spy With My Face” and “To Trap a Spy,” slam-bang suspenseful.spy adventures in color offering hit entertainment. Still Solo-45 To Trap A Spy Mat 2-D DAVID McCALLUM EMERGES AS SCREEN’S MOST SUCCESSFUL NEW MATINEE IDOL Hollywood, always looking for “matinee idols,’ has found one in young, handsome blonde David McCallum who, following a successful career in his native England (actually, he was born in Glasgow, Scotland), has emerged as one of the most popular actors in American show business. McCallum currently stars with Robert Vaughn and Senta Berger in MGM’s exciting spy-thriller, “The Spy With My Face.” Also on the program, again with McCallum and Vaughn—the world’s two most famous U.N.C.L.E.s—is “To Trap a Spy,” another thriller to hold the viewer on the edge of his seat. And you'll be seeing a lot more of Mr. McCallum in the near future. He is one of the stars in MGM’s new Ivan Tors underseas adventure-drama, “Around the World Under the Sea,” Senta Berger threatens Robert Vaughn with both a gun and an embrace in “The Spy With My Face,” also starring David McCallum. The thriller is paired with “To Trap a Spy,” also starring Vaughn and McCallum—the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s— in MGM’s dual-program of slam-bang spy adventures in color. Still 6011-13 The Spy With My Face Mat 2-B and next he will be seen as a harried travel guide for European *tours in MGM’s romantic comedy, “Three Bites of the Apple.” McCallum comes of a_ musicalminded family. His father is concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and his mother was a cellist. He himself plays the oboe. Although he has built a complete stereophonic music centre in his home in a ten-room Spanish-style mansion in the Hollywood hills, he is also a confirmed rock ’n’ roll fan, “T like both long-hair and modern music,” he says. “There’s room for both.” McCallum received his acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He served in the British Army in Africa for eighteen months and, after his discharge, was signed by J. Arthur Rank for a series of British motion pictures. It was his role as Judas in “The Greatest Story Ever Told” which introduced him to American movie audiences. I*or many of his movie parts, McCallum had to have a comprehensive knowledge of firearms for gunfighting scenes. For this his experience as a soldier in strife-torn Ghana served him well and he has become an expert in the use of any and all types of guns. This is reflected in the fan letters he receives, many of which read, “In my book, you’re the toughest.” The actor receives an average of 5,000 letters a week, with feminine admirers referring to him as “that sexy Scot.” No wonder Hollywood has decided it has found a new “matinee idol’ in David McCallum! McCALLUM DIGS THAT ROCK ‘N’ ROLL BEAT David McCallum, the son of the noted violinist David McCallum, Sr., concertmaster of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, was brought up on the classical oboe, and could always get a position with an orchestra, himself, if he wanted one. However, since becoming a movie star, McCallum has joined the ranks of avid rock ’n’ roll and Beattle fans. McCallum and Robert Vaughn—two of America’s favorite U.N.C.L.E.s— currently star in a dual-program of MGM spy thrillers, “The Spy With My Face” and “To Trap a Spy.” The two U.N.C.L.E.s have this in common—they both like “swing music.”
