THESE PAGES CONTAIN THREE ANNOUNCEMENT STORIES—ONE COVERING THE SHOWING OF ‘‘THE SPY WITH MY FACE’’ AND “‘TO TRAP A SPY’’ AS A DUAL-ATTRACTION; THE OTHER TWO SINGLE ANNOUNCEMENT STORIES FOR EACH RESPECTIVE PICTURE. MOST OF THE OTHER STORIES IN THE PUBLICITY SECTION REFER TO BOTH ‘SPY WITH MY FACE’? AND “‘TO TRAP A SPY” AS A DUAL-ATTRACTION. FOR THEATERS SHOWING THEM AS SINGLE FEATURES, REFERENCE TO THE SECOND FEATURE SHOULD BE ELIMINATED. “TO TRAP A SPY” SPINE-TINGLING! (Announcement Story ) A humdinger of a spy-thriller with your two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s—Robert Vaughn and David McCallum—is brought to the screen by MGM in “To , Trap a Spy,” suspenseful and excite ment-pitched drama, with Vaughn portraying Napoleon Solo and McCallum as Illya Kuryakin. Two beautiful girls, Luciana Paluzzi and Patricia Crowley, are also involved in the hair-raising episodes of this adventure-thriller, filmed in color against a wide range of settings. The plot concerns WASP, a worldwide crime-for-hire syndicate which plans to take over Western Natumba, a newly created African nation, by assassinating its Premier when he visits the Vulcan Chemical plant. This plot is thwarted by Napoleon Solo and Elaine (Patricia Crowley), a young housewife, with David McCallum and Miss Palluzi, as a beautiful WASP agent, playing a dramatic part in the outcome. The tense climax, in which Napoleon and Elaine are chained to a steam pipe in a locked tunnel under which a reactor has been prepared for a deadly explosion, will keep the spectator rooted to the edge of his seat. Written by Sam Rolfe, “To Trap a Spy” was produced by Norman Felton and directed by Don Medford. It offers wonderful escapist spy entertainment. IN SPY ADVENTURE David McCallum is saved from death by Jennifer Billingsley in “The Spy With My Face,’’ starring Robert Vaughn and Senta Berger. The thriller is paired with “To Trap a Spy,” also starring Vaughn and McCallum—the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s — in MGMs dual-program of slam-bang spy adventures in color. It is a color attraction filled with unremitting action and suspense. The plot revolves around a group of international scientists who have a formula for a weapon so powerful that the future of the world is at stake. Knowing that if this force were unleashed it would be the end of all, it is decided to conceal the formula deep in the Swiss Alps, to be used only in case of attack on earth from outer space. The responsibility of guarding this ominous arsenal is given to the chief of an international agency, U.N.C.L.E. (United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.) THRUSH, a band of murderous renegades who will stop at nothing in their mad desire to rule the world, have learned of this new weapon and are determined to have it for their own evil purposes. How their scheme is thwarted FAN MAIL SENT TC SUPER-SPY “GUN” Probably the oddest object of fan mail in Hollywood is a nine-pound piece of black steel—The U.N.C.L.E. Special. This super-spy gun, a combination pistol, rifle and machine gun, is the unique weapon used by Robert Vaughn in two MGM spy-thrillers, “The Spy With My Face” and “To Trap a Spy,” now being shown as a dual attraction with America’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s—Vaughn and David McCallum. Most of the mail arriving at the MGM Studios for the two U.N.C.L.E.s, from youngsters, gun collectors and just plain fans, is simply addressed to: “The Gun, Hollywood, California.” Do you think the Post Office is baffled by this remarkable address? By no means. The p.o. clerks must be Vaughn and McCallum fans themselves for the letters never fail to arrive at the destination they were intended for. by Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn), top agent for U.N.C.L.E., and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum), Napoleon’s partner, in thrilling action, climaxed by a bullet-ridden chase through the Alps, makes for a slam-bang adventure and fascinating “escape entertainment.” Beautiful Miss Berger plays an alluring agent for THRUSH, who is used as bait to capture Napoleon Solo, with Leo G. Carroll cast as Mr. Waverly, chief of the international network command, “The Spy With My Face” is an Arena Production, produced by Sam Rolfe and directed by John Newland, with Norman Felton as executive producer. The screenplay is by Clyde Ware and Joseph Calvelli from a story by Clyde Ware. SENTA BERGER, NAMED TOP STAR, PLAYS VILLAINESS IN “THE SPY WITH MY FACE’ Lovely brunette Senta Berger, after appearing in a series of German movies, leaped into overnight fame with her role of the German sweetheart of a Russian soldier in “The Victors.” Recently, the spotlight again was focused on her when she was named by U.S. motion picture exhibitors as a Top Star of Tomorrow. This “Top Star” is now seen as a voluptuous, murder-minded villainess opposite Robert Vaughn and David McCallum in MGM’s exciting spythriller, “The Spy With My Face.” Also on the program, again with the world’s two most famous U.N.C.L.E.s —Vaughn and McCallum—is “To Trap a Spy,” another thriller to hold the viewer on the edge of his seat. “My future looks bright,” Senta Berger admits, ‘‘and if I continue to get good parts in pictures such as this fantastic spy adventure, I don’t think I need to worry.” The talented actress has worked in films since she was seventeen, grinding out as many as eight a year and sometimes appearing in two pictures simultaneously. Although her name, Berger, translates as “mountain dweller,” Senta is a child of the city. She lived through Vienna’s war years during which time her family was bombed out four times. Until she was fourteen, Senta never had a place of her own. Today, she has five homes and spends a good deal of her free time buying up garden apartments in Vienna, Munich and Berlin. “T suppose one might think I do this because I was so poor and insecure when I was growing up,” she says, “but I don’t think that’s actually the reason. It just makes me nervous to have my money doing nothing in a bank.” Unlike her role in “The Victors,” when she was asked to wear a blonde wig, Senta insisted on retaining her own chestnut hair for “The Spy With My Face.” “Tt bothers me to put on a blonde wig because nobody seems to take a blonde seriously, either as a woman or an actress,” she declares. “I may get some dirty looks from the light-haired girls when I say this, but I feel we brunettes have all the fun.” Miss Berger will next be seen in “Cast a Giant Shadow,” but she hasn’t always limited her work to the screen. She has acted in Max Reinhardt’s Old Theatre in the Josepstadt and won Vienna plaudits with her performances in “As You Like It,” “The Taming of the Shrew” and Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Robert Vaughn and Patricia Crowley run for their lives in “‘To Trap a Spy,” also starring David McCallum. The thriller is paired with “The Spy With My Face,” also starring Vaughn and McCallum—the world’s two favorite U.N.C.L.E.s—in MGM’s dualprogram of slam-bang spy adventures in color.
