NIVEN STANDEE Make a life-size silhouette cut-out of David Niven in still no. MGM 85-8, back on board, and use as a theatre front piece or on your marquee. ~ MUSTACHE SLANT David Niven’s mustache seems to be a decided element in the star’s charm, Tieing in with this, send a letter to every barber in town, saying that you’re looking for men with unusual mustaches to be your opening day guests. This will immediately get a lot of barbers discussing the film with their customers. When you get a line on the people you're after arrange for them to attend at the same time—with papers and television stations alerted in advance for photo coverage of the group! HELICOPTER STUNT A helicopter is used to ‘‘rescue"’ David Niven from an infuriated mob in one of the picture’s most dramatic segments. Tieing in with this, see if arrangements can be made for a helicopter to deliver your film print on the street in front of your theatre. Check your local air field for a lead on this. Arrangements might also be made for a free ride for your first dozen patrons. Much of the film was made on location in Lebanon, with exciting scenes of Beirut, the Crusader Castle in the town of Byblos, etc. Have travel agents highlight Lebanon in their windows, together with your stills. Check the travel editor of your paper about doing a piece on Lebanon. It mentions that WHERE THE SPIES ARE pictures many scenes in that country, and perhaps uses some of your stills. ‘SPY DISGUISE’ DEMONSTRATION Ask one of your local dramatic groups to lend you its make-up expert. Have him demonstrate the art of disguise via make-up in your lobby. By way of reciprocity, you might plug the club’s next production on a lobby sign. Try for a newspaper photo on this “disguise” stunt. INVITATION TO CRITICS, DISC JOCKEYS Send a pretty girl to visit each critic and prominent radio and television personality with an invitation to see your show. She also gives each a pack of British-brand cigarettes and a bottle of French wine. The cigarettes are tagged: “David Niven is the hero!” And a tag on the wine says: “And lovely Francoise Dorleac is the girl he’s after.” AIR LINE CONTEST Pan-American and Air India fly to Lebanon from the United States. If one of these lines has a sales office in your city check the manager about the possibility of a promotion (perhaps also involving the participation of a local radio or television station, or department store) which has a pair of round-trip tickets to Lebanon given as a grand prize to one of your patrons. TEASER AD Run a one inch display ad on an off-movie page, with copy similar to this: IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR DR. JASON LOVE The assassination is set for Friday, October 10. You can help me prevent it. Meet me at 2110 Ferris Street on that date at 2 P.M. Please —don’t let anything stop you from being there! VICKI Of course, Dr. Jason Love is Niven’s name in the film, and Vicki is Francoise Dorleac’s. The address is that of your theatre, the date noted is your playdate, and the time given is that of your first performance. THEATRE TRAILER Available through National Screen Service. TELEVISION TRAILERS Available at 60 and 20 seconds in length. Contact your MGM Field Press Representative. RADIO E.T.'s | Two at 60 seconds, and two at 30 seconds in length.
