RADIO TIPS
Your Monogram Exploitation Department has consulted with some of Radio’s top advertising men and asked for tips on radio exploitation of motion pictures. We are passing along these ideas for your information.
A SPOT ANNOUNCEMENT is an announcement of 100 words or LESS. It is the opinion that the LESS the better. Often, a short, snappy plug will sell many more tickets than a long, overburdened-with-words spot. Therefore, concentrate on putting as little copy as possible in your announcements. Also, if you have a short spot you will have a much better chance of getting good or “preferred” time for your blurb.
All copy, when taken from the pressbook and re-written for your radio station, should be edited and culled for your particular situation. Always DOUBLE SPACE your copy, thusly...
65 WORDS:
Shhhh! There's much ado about secret weapons in the new Monogram Charlie Chan mystery. “CHARLIE CHAN IN THE SECRET SERVICE.” Can't say much about secret weapons, but we can tell you about the picture. Sidney Toler, in his best Chan role to date, solves murders committed by electronics! He runs a race of death to save a nation! “CHARLIE CHAN IN THE SECRET SERVICE.” BLANK THEATRE, NOW!
Words you want “punched” should be CAPITALIZED or UNDERLINED.
Bear these tips in mind and cooperate with your radio station. Another thing to remember is never to use more than a second carbon. Think oi the announcer’s grief trying to read a blurred piece of copy.
Often a radio station has all its time sold. That is, the time you might want for a spot is taken. If so, approach your radioman with this idea: A short, “tack-on” plug. These take only a few seconds, and can be inserted on breaks, etc. These go well around mystery programs.
