Nick and Betty Hilton, Craig’s secretary, discover the millionaire in the library of his home one night, minus his mental faculties. Doctors find that half his brain has been destroyed, but that he will live on indefinitely, though he must be watched and cared for constantly. Tony Weldon: friend of the family, lives on the estate in a small cottage away from the big house, and assists in caring for Craig. George Phillips, another friend of the family, is killed, and Trayne discovers the body with Craig standing over it. Tracing down clues, Nick and Betty find that a man named Carson has purchased the chemicals and rented a house in which Craig was subjected to the treatment that destroyed part of his brain. The real estate agent, however, knows the man to whom he rented the house only by his voice, so Trayne summons the entire Craig household in order that he may make recordings of their voices. That night Tony Weldon attempts to kill the detective, but the latter overpowers him and it is revealed that Weldon is the man who masqueraded under the name of Carson and has performed the operation on Craig. Further questioning reveals that Weldon and Helen, the millionaire’s second wife, are in love and, having learned that Craig's will leaves his entire fortune to his daughter Tina, have kept the husband alive in the hope that they might induce him to to change the will in favor of Helen. ithe picture, and did not know until | FEMALE SHERLOCK ON THE JOB The lady with the deadly look in her eyes and the gun in her hand is Joan Woodbury, who does a little sleuthing with James Dunn in “The Living Ghost,’ Monogram chiller-diller at the..........
