Exploitation PUT ‘PINK PANTHER’ IN LOBBY, OUT FRONT! “The Pink Panther” lends itself easily and inexpensively to high comedy teaser sell in your lobby and out front. The sly, mischievous, fun-loving appeal of the Pink Panther figure, around which your displays should be built, will catch the eye of passers-by and even more so, of audiences who have just seen the trailer described on Page 11 (in which the Pink Panther is the key figure). You can use either or both of the following suggested displays: e Place a blow-up of Panther in a pink, frilly “cage” in which a “keeper” (pretty girl in leotards) from time to time places “caviar” and “champagne.” Animal sounds (cat’s meow or mew) can be made to emanate from it via recordings. Copy in the cage or below it reads: “You Only Live Once, So See ‘The Pink Panther’ Twice!” e Mount a cut-out figure with a motor behind it that rocks it from side to side. Hit it with pink spot or spots and place same copy above or below it. e The Pink Panther is available as an 8 x 10 still. Order TP-Art 1 from National Screen exchange. Record of cat’s meow may be ordered by number (4127A) from: Thomas J. Valentino, Inc., 150 West 46th Street, New York 36, N. Y. STREET BALLY The Pink Panther as a cute figure can be employed around town via a street bally. ities a couple of attractive girls in pink, furry “panther” costumes. Sign on their backs read: ““You Only Live Once, So See ‘The Pink Panther’ Twice! (Playdate copy)” Also print a quantity of Ad No. 303, the copy of which reads, “This Is What Pink Panthers Are Made Of” and have the girls distribute them. PET SHOP CO-OP! There may be a smile in a tie-up wherein a pet shop places a card—suitably decorated with “The Pink Panther” art in his window, announcing “All Kinds of Pets But PINK PANTHERS. For that go to the Blank Theatre, and since you only live once, see “The Pink Panther’ twice.” Another angle would be for pet shop to run newspaper ad with copy which says: “If it’s a Pink Panther you want, go to the Blank Theatre—and since you only live once, you'd better see it twice! But for any other kind of pet, try us!” Z00 GOES ALONG WITH GAG If there’s a zoo or menagerie in town—or, for that matter. anywhere in your beanies area—it may be possible to inspire a story from a curator or keeper, that there’s no such animal as a pink panther. This public announcement should be made in response to all kinds of telephone calls inquiring if there is such a beast. The touch must be light, of course. However, if there is a tamed panther in local captivity, it may be possible to dress him up with a bow under his chin, ete., to “await the arrival of his famous cousin,” for the benefit of photographers. This may be followed up with a story about the panther’s disappointment when he discovers there is no such thing as a pink panther. FOUND—‘PINK PANTHER’ Many papers run a special column for lost and found pets and if there’s one such in your town you may be able to inject a smile at little cost by running an ad under “Found” with copy like “PINK PANTHER, Funniest thing you ever saw! You only live once, So see him twice! Blank Theatre, now.” DA fe 10 Bantam Books Backs Special Movie Edition Of Pink Panther’ With Big Campaign! First of all it’s a natural for a store-wide special bargain “hunt.” Store selects a class item or items and tells people they can find it by following the panko prints chalked on the floor. As much surprise as possible should be injected into this and it should be announced in ads and the store as “A Special Pink Panther Bargain Week.” Specialty Shops, too, can take advantage of the title by pushing a particularly frilly nighty, dressing gown or other lingerie (all in pink, of course) as their “Pink Panther Specials.” For further city-wide promotion among the merchants, you can have sandwiches, soft drinks, cocktails, sundaes, all called “Pink Panthers.” In all cases, be it Russian dressing, strawberry syrup or grenadine, a dash of pink can be the motif.
