Beverly Tyler Likes New Role (Biography ) “Toughest Gun In Tombstone” is the first western beautiful Beverly Tyler has starred in since “Battle of Apache Pass” in which she shared honors with Jeff Chandler. Usually appearing in sophisticated dramas, Beverly relishes working in the western adventure field. She says it gives her a chance to catch up with her horseback riding. Beverly who was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, was genuinely interested in music and eagerly accepted her parents’ taking her to New York City to study with one of the finest voice teachers there. The young singer had given no serious thought to a professional career but when she was thirteen, she was asked to make her professional debut on “Aunt Jenny’s True Life Stories” radio program, for which she earned sixty dollars a day for four days work. Her first earned money was used for her singing lessons. Beverly was walking down Broadway with an actress friend who suggested that she stop in the MGM offices and ask for an audition. Though she thought it was a foolish idea, Beverly agreed to do it. Immediately after interviewing her and listening to her sing, the talent executives signed her to a long term contract. At MGM she was sent to school on the lot and intensively trained in drama, ballet, singing, French, speech and regular subjects of a high school curriculum. The rising actress’ first picture was “Best Foot Forward” and she has appeared in many important films and stage hits since.
