COPY YOUR CAT AND IMPROVE YOUR FIGURE Ann-Margret Exemplifies Feline Grace "If you copy your cat as she bends and stretches you can work out a series of figurestretching exercises that will be fun to do," said Ann-Margret during an interview with her on a rehearsal stage at Universal. The star of "Kitten With a Whip’ was making friends with a trained Ocelot, and while admiring the spotted fur of her little companion, Ann-Margret observed its stretching and leaping motions and began copying them horself. Dressed in a black leotard which makes a great outfit for being a "copy cat’ AnnMargret gently teased the kitten into a series of movements that brought every rippling muscle into play. From this she worked out a series of exercises that can be done by anyone whether she has a cat or not. The theory is that bringing into play littleused muscles firms the body, gets rid of flabbiness and increases circulation. After her exercise routine, Ann-Margret copies her cat by relaxing as limply as she can as she lies on the floor for ten minutes rest. Now, here are the exercises that will keep you slim and graceful as an Ocelot. 1. Crouch on all fours and round your back as high as possible, pulling in the stomach muscles and tightening the thigh and seat muscles. Ann-Margret imitates an ocelot in this ''cat-like'’ exercise. Hold for a count of ten, and release. Repeat ten times. 2. A great spine-stretcher is this exercise. On all fours, stretch your spine out as long and flat as you can, like a cat, while keeping your legs and arms stiff. Hold for a count of ten. Relax. Repeat ten times. 3. A good stretch for all muscles is accomplished by sliding forward on the body. Lying face down, slide forward, stretching arms and legs alternately as you push yourself along. A short flight of steps helps you inch forward. Pretend you are a cat on its prey, and stretch, stretch, stretch. 4. Lie on your back and press your spine to the floor. Raise one leg to the ceiling, then the other. Lower each limb slowly, to the count of ten. This exercise flattens the abdomen and combats flabbiness in arms and legs. (STILL NO. 1937-EX-1) BEAUTY BEGINS WITH THE BATH ANN-MARGRET SETS ASIDE TIME FOR HER BEAUTY PROGRAM That lovely auburn-haired star of Universal's "Kitten With a Whip," Ann-Margret, turns her bathroom into a beauty parlor and an exercise salon when she takes one hour out of a busy day to care for her good looks. Of course, being a film star, she can afford the most luxurious of grooming accessories, from a hair drier to a marble bathtub complete with a folding table that fits over it to hold her beauty equip ment. However, her simple routines of face and figure care could be used by any girl determined to take time to improve herself. "Time is the most important element in my daily program," says Ann-Margret. ''l prefer having a whole hour to use for myself whenever it is possible to do so, because one really needs that amount of time to catch up on those little beauty routines that are indispensible to good grooming." For her hour's routine, AnnMargret starts with a few exercises. As she is supple and dances a lot, she does not need much more, but she likes to do a few deep side bends to keep her waistline trim, and some stretching and bending with arms overhead. She then washes her hair with a mild shampoo and tucks it up in a towel, turban fashion, while she takes her bath. As she relaxes in the water she manicures her nails and changes her polish from the tray that is fixed to her bath table. She then creams her face and allows the steam from the hot water to open the pores and help to remove the day's impurities. Ann-Margret, starring in Universal’s ‘Kitten With a Whip,’’ takes an hour out of a busy day for her beauty program. With her freshly-washed hair turbanned in a towel she prepares for her bath. (Still No. 1937-EX-2) After her bath, Ann-Margret washes her face and closes her pores with ice-water. Her damp hair is then set on rollers, and dressed in a loose robe, she relaxes under her hair drier and perhaps studies her lines for her next day's movie work. Before dressing for the evening, Ann-Margret applies her make-up before a well-lighted mirror, and brushes out her gleaming hair. Her beauty chores are done, and with a spray of her favorite perfume she is refreshed and ready for whatever the evening may bring. NEGLIGEES FOR THE TROUSSEAU MINDED Ann-Margret Has Some Suggestions For You A negligee is the first item a bride-to-be thinks of when she’s collecting lingerie and lounging wear for her “hope chest.” It has to be dreamy, romantic creation of course, and that’s why we favor the one worn by Ann-Margret in Universal’s “Kitten With A Whip.” This charming actress wears a negligee made up of yards of sapphire-blue chiffon, pleated over a pale blue silk foundation, and slashed in a deep “V’ neckline. A full, circular skirt sways when she walks and “poufs” up in a cloud when she sits down. Complementing Ann-Margret’s electric-blue eyes and auburn hair, the effect is devastating. “Like all women | acore pretty lingerie,” admitted Ann-Margret and conceded that her collection of boudoir wear is quite extensive. Some of her slips and gowns are hand-made in France, others are bought from smart shops wherever she travels. For this Americanborn girl has sophisticated tastes that encompass a range of materials, designs and styles. She's an experienced traveller and has learned which items pack best in a suitcase. “When choosing negligees for a honeymoon trip, it is best to consider the ones that pack most easily, and are lightweight—that is if you are going by plane. After all, you can't picture yourself spending your honeymoon ironing out the creases in a heavy satin gown! Especially when a lace one will discard its wrinkles if you hang it up. Chiffon is light and packs well if you use plenty of tissue in the folds. Of course sheer wool can be rolled, and always looks attractive.” Ann-Margret added that you must not be too practical on a honeymoon trip. You'll want to wear what your husband likes best. Please him and let the creases fall where they may! For care of your lingerie, Ann-Margret suggests you wash slips and other underwear by hand, in your washbasin. A few drops of cologne added to the final rinse water is always a nice touch. And the time it takes to touch up lacy portions with a warm iron is time well spent, if you want to keep your lingerie collection in sparkling shape. Ann-Margret, starring in Universal’s “Kitten With a Whip,’” models an exciting negligee of sapphire blue chiffon with a deep decolletage and full pleated skirts layered over pale blue silk. (Still No. 1937-EX 3) Parrot-bright colors in sports clothes are favored by dazzling Ann-Margret in ‘Kitten With a Whip’’ for Universal. Here she teams a lilac wool jacket with long cuffed sleeves, over lemon-yellow fitted ankle plants. There is a purple print scarf looped through a buttonhole in the jacket. (Still No. 1937-EX 4) Page 14 PARROT-BRIGHT COLORS IN NEW SPORTS CLOTHES It takes a daring red-head like Ann-Margret to launch a dazzling new style, and she's just the girl who can do it! In "Kitten With a Whip," in which she stars for Universal, the Scandinavian beauty has assembled a wardrobe of sports clothes that brightens up the landscape. She has one ensemble composed of a lilac wool jacket teamed with lemon-yellow pants and a deep purple printed silk scarf. "Il love bright colors for leisure wear,’ commented Ann-Margret. "Though | admit, being a red-head, | have to be careful in teaming my color tones so they don't clash with my hair and skin. Then like everybody else | can't just throw any old reds and yellows and blues together and expect to look well-coordinated. There must be a balance between the colors. However, when | do achieve a color scheme that satisfies me, | find that the various pieces can be used to enhance other items in my wardrobe." Indicating the cardigan-necked jacket in the pretty lilac tone, Ann-Margret pointed out that this would make a good topper for a pleated wool skirt in both white and navy blue. A sleeveless white shell blouse would make another outfit when worn with the yellow tapered slacks. In this way, if you should follow Ann-Margret's color scheme, you would have four distinct outfits for a vacation wardrobe. You would feature a white blouse and white pleated skirt, lilac jacket and navy blue skirt, yellow pants and while blouse plus the pants worn with the lilac jacket and purple silk scarf as worn by Ann-Margret in "Kitten With a Whip.” "For city wear I prefer plain well-cut dark or beige dresses with harmonizing accessories,' added Ann-Margret, "but for carefree days at sports events, in the country and at the beach, | love to wear parrot-bright colors. They seem to fit into the occasion when one is in a gay mood.’
