Born in Dublin, she was educated in a convent there, at the Art School, and at the Gate Theatre. At nineteen she made two successful picture appearances in England. Summoned to Broadway to play opposite Orson Welles in a Mercury Theatre production of Shaw’s “Hearbreak House” she did such superb work that a Warner contract resulted. She first appeared in support of Bette Davis in “Dark Victory” and was then loaned to Goldwyn for “Wuthering Heights”. Her third American picture is Warner Bros.’ “A Child Is Born’’.
