Meantime, having listened to Roberts’ charges that Hamilton has been using Treasury money to silence Reynolds, Jefferson, Monroe and Roberts visit Hamilton. He tells them candidly of his affair and they all respect his confidence with the exception of Roberts, who repeats the story before Mrs. Hamilton and her father. Hamilton, faced with defeat for his Assumption Bill or the publication of his complete
defense to the charges, which must hurt his family, defies Roberts and tells his story to the public. Betsy is on the verge of leaving Hamilton, but by a touching gesture

He realizes that despite his sacrifice of reputation, he has probably lost. ROUTINE STORY
(The following story has all the important facts about the play. Release it to all papers several days before the coming of “Alexander Hamilton.”
George Arliss, greatest character actor of the day, comes to the Theatre. next in Warner Bros. screen version of his brilliantly successful stage play, “Alexander Hamilton.”
This is the second American Mr. Arliss has portrayed on the screen, his first being in “The Millionaire.” While there is a vast difference between the self-made business man of “The Millionaire” and the stormy aristocrat, “Alexander Hamilton,” Mr. Arliss makes both men forceful and living. From the first mofortunes of the hero hold the audience spell
so much with then
question. Reynolds, a malcontent, plots Hamilton’s ruin, and for that purpose sends his alluring wife, to him to ask for funds for her return to her father, to escape the cruelty of her husband. The fiery champion of human rights becomes involved in an affair with the woman. The claim is made that he has used government funds—and Jefferson, Monroe and other great men of the day visit him to accuse him of the misdeed. The unexpected way in which he clears himself of the false charge—while confessing his human susceptibility to feminine wile is one of many brilliantly dramatic scenes.
It is needless to say that the interpretation of Mr. Arliss is flawless. All who remember him as Disraeli, the Rajah of Rookh in “The Green Goddess,” Sylvanus Heythorp in “Old English” or James Alden, (sometime Charley Miller) in “The Millionaire.” can imagine what he makes of the magnetic personality of Hamilton.
His excellent support includes Doris Kenyon as Betty Hamilton, Dudley Digges as Senator Timothy Roberts; Alan Mowbray as General George Washington; Ralf Harolde as Mr. Reynolds; June Collyer as the -alluring Mary Reynolds; Charles Middleton as Chief Justice John Jay; Montague Love as Thomas Jefferson; Morgan Wallace as James Monroe; Lionel Belmore as General Schuyler; Gwendolin Logan as Martha Washington and John T. Murray as Count Talleyrand. Others in the cast are Charles Evans, John Larkin, Evelyn Hall, Russell Simpson and James Durkin. Over a thousand extras take part as Revolutionary soldiers and citizenry. John Adolfi directed.
