The only pictures to be submitted are those taken with the photomaton machine (which takes a number of photos while you wait). Then, show your local newspaper editor the advantage to his paper of a contest of this sort and he’s sure to give you all the co-operation necessary. It’s a help to him and a natural for you! Run the contest in this manner:— 1. Have the newspaper announce the contest several days before the run of the picture. 2. Announce the contest on your screen and in your program copy. 3. Have the photomaton dealer place placards in his window telling the people to “Have Your Pictures Taken For the Joe E. Brown Funniest Face Contest.” 4. Use such lines as: “Joe E. Brown’s face is his fortune—You, too, can win money by sending us your funniest expression. Who has the funniest face in town?” 5. Have the newspaper publish the funniest photograph from day to day until the end of the contest. 6. Offer as prizes, cash and theatre passes. 7. Tie-up with an dealer in your town to have the little cars (they’re used in the picture) driven through the streets of your town with the following banner: of the street you’ve Austin one of 40 Miles per Gallon in an Austin 40 Laughs per Minute with JOE E. Use a large cut-out of a laughing head of Joe E, Brown surrounded by a group of feminine legs, similar to those used in hosiery display. This stunt is attractive and ties-up with the picture. Play up caricatures and stills of the comedian all over the lobby. (Caricatures are obtainable in theatre ads and still set.) And don’t forget the beautiful girls supporting Joe E. Brown in “Broad Minded.” Supplement the lobby display with pictures of Thelma Todd, Ona Munson and Marjorie White. JOE E. Brown with the mouth and eyes cut out. By moving the back of the card up and down, the comedian’s eyes are made to flash and his mouth opens and closes. Across the forehead is imprinted, “JOE E.
