(Review) “Bullet Scars’ Tense And Exciting Film Excitement, thrills and melodrama that pulses with danger are the ingredients of. the Strand’s new picture, “Bullet Scars’, which opened last night. From start to finish, this tightly-knit screen drama holds its audience taut with suspense. Regis Toomey, Adele Longmire, Howard da Silva head the cast of this exciting tale of a small-town doctor who falls into the clutches of a deadly gangster mob. The gangsters, fleeing after they have performed a daring bank hold-up, take refuge at what they grimly call their “hunting lodge”, a macabre, walied-in country estate. They summon ea doctor from the nearby town to take care of one of their mob who has been wounded. The sister of the wounded man, a pretty nurse, is also brought to the scene, and with her aid, the doctor performs the necessary operation. The patient is so far gone, however, that there seems little hope of saving him, and the gangster chief smoothly persuades the doctor to stay on at the lodge to take care of him. The doctor, who has been told that the patient was wounded in a hunting accident, believes the story at first, but soon realizes that it was really quite a different kind of accident. He realizes, too, that he and the nurse are virtual prisoners. He won’t attempt to escape without her, though, and she refuses to leave her brother. How they extricate themselves from danger and bring the killers to justice makes a tho:'oughly thrilling finish. Adele Longmire Makes Film Debut Broadway’s loss is again Hollywood’s gain. Latest and prettiest of the Great White Way’s deserters is Adele Longmire, who makes her screen debut in ‘Bullet Scars’, the current drama at the Strand. Miss Longmire whose “typical American girl’ type of beauty won the notice of Warner Bros.’ talent scouts had three Broadway hits to her credit when she answered Hollywood’s’ clarion call. There was “Abe Lincoln in Illinois” “Two On An Island” and “Old Acquaintance”. It was while she was playing in the last that she signed a Warner Bros. contract, and immediately after the play closed she was on her way west. Predictions are that she’ll stay.
