Exciting Drama Of Underworld At Strand Friday
What should a woman do when she finds out that she has married a desperate criminal? That is the highly dramatic situation in which Joan Perry finds herself in Warner Bros.’ thrilling new film, “Bullets For O’Hara” which will make its local debut at the Strand Theatre next Friday. Co-starred with Joan Perry in this novel story of the underworld is Roger Pryor, who plays the part of a detective who is sworn to see that justice is done regardless of the consequences.
Joan discovers that she has married a jewel thief when her husband, played by Anthony Quinn, steals $250,000 worth of precious gems from some friends with whom they were spending their honeymoon. Pryor is assigned to the case and forces Quinn into hiding. But Joan is held as a material witness. At first she is treated as an ordinary gun moll, but Pryor changes his tactics when he learns that Joan is really on the side of the law.
Pryor suggests that Joan pretend to marry him in order to get Quinn to come out of hiding and she agrees. Quinn and his henchmen storm the wedding, kidnap Joan and make a getaway with the police hot on their trail. Quinn plans to go to Havana, taking Joan with him, but through a clever trick she thwarts those plans. The story has a novel ending. which combines. surprise with suspense.

"Bullets ForO'Hara' New Crime Film Opens Today
Love, suspense, adventure and thrills are in store for the Strand Theatre patrons when they see “Bullets For O’Hara” which starts its local run today. The film stars Joan Perry and Roger Pryer in a thrilling story of a woman who finds herself married to one of the most sought criminals in the country.
Joan Perry plays the role of a girl who marries a jewel thief, played by Anthony Quinn, and as a result finds more than her share of trouble. Roger Pryor, in the role of a detective assigned to bring Quinn to justice, refuses to believe that Joan knew nothing of her husband’s criminal activities. But he soon realizes her sincerity when she agrees to cooperate with the police in finding Quinn who de
serts her when he is forced into hiding.
It is arranged for Joan to announce her marriage to Pryor in the hopes of luring Quinn out of his hiding place. This succeeds; but not in the way the police had planned. Quinn and some of his fellow thugs kidnap Joan at the wedding and kill a couple of policemen in the ensuing hair-raising chase. Quinn intends to take Joan to Havana and she is dismayed to learn that the police have been thrown off her trail. She plans a daring escape which is one of the many exciting highlights of the film.
William K. Howard directed the dynamic story of gangland from the scenario by Raymond Schrock. P. J. Wolfson wrote the original story.
Model Lovely Joan Perry New Hollywood Recruit
In New York City Joan Perry became one of the most highlypaid models for the famous couturiers, on a platform of “no foot kissing, no white les, no insincere flattery.”
“You’ve succeeded at _ this game, but you’ll find it different in Hollywood,” her friends kept telling her down at the office.
A film producer saw her, asked to meet her. He told her that she ought to be in pictures.
Joan said, “Are you complimenting me, insulting me—or do you mean it?”
The screen test was made, and
Joan, a five-foot, five-inch blonde with blue-green eyes and an aristocratic face, promptly found herself in Hollywood.
“Little by little, a chip on my shoulder was allowed to slide off,” she declares. “I found out that the film town liked and respected me, was eager to help me.”
Now she is playing her best part to date, feminine lead in Warner Bros.’ “Bullets for O’Hara,” now showing at the Strand Theatre. She has a contract at that studio as a result of her excellent performance.

Last night, patrons of the Strand Theatre saw a new type of gangster film, Warner Bros.’ “Bullets For O’Hara,” and they loved it. It hasall the adventure, excitement and thrills that is usually associated with crime pictures, but in addition it has a_ plot that is truly different. It’s intriguing story has so many novel twists and is so full of suspense that the audience followed the picture with vivid interest from the first reel to the last lest they might miss part of it.
Pretty Joan Perry and breezy Roger Pryor give very fine performances in the leading roles while Anthony Quinn and Maris Wrixon are excellent in the supporting cast. Joan plays the role of a girl who, after a whirlwind romance, finds herself married

Roger Pryor Plays Smart Sleuth in Strand Drama
Roger Pryor, who has the lead opposite beautiful Joan Perry in Warner Bros.’ “Bullets For O’Hara,” now at the Strand, is the son of Arthur Pryor, outstanding American musician and composer,and after highly specialized drama training he entered the theatre back in 1919.
Stock and road companies lead to Broadway and began a career there which brought stardom in several plays including “Riddle Me This,” which was his own production.
After that, he has always, officially or unofficially, been on both sides of the footlights—or cameras. His services as play doctor are always accepted.
He has been busy on the

Patricia (Joan Perry) marries Tony Van Dyne (Anthony Quinn) only to discover that he is a notorious jewel thief. She shows her contempt for him by cooperating with Mike O'Hara (Roger Pryor), a detective assigned to arrest Tony. After many exciting experiences, including a thrilling chase at sea, Tony is brought to justice. Patricia, who had divorced Tony, and went through what she thought was a mock marriage to Mike, is delighted to find out that the ceremony was the real thing.
