This is the third of a series of five contests arranged to select the 25 Movie Fans with the best developed Movie Memories, each of whom will receive two tickets to see the first picture of peacetime flying aces, a film based on the sensational stage success by Lieut. Commander Frank Wead, who was himself a famous aviator, and who writes what he himself knows.
Wead, as you may know, was a great athlete when a student at the U. S. Naval Academy, starring in basket ball and la crosse. He graduated with honors from Annapolis, and was commissioned an ensign in the navy. During the World War he helped lay the mine barricade in the North Sea.
After the Armistice he was transferred to the air division of the navy and captained the team that won the Schneider cup in aviation for the United States against the best fliers of Great Britain, France and Italy.
He held the record for speed and endurance in seaplane races, had contributed a great deal to the science of aviation when an accident in his own home permanently crippled him.
Retired from the Navy, and released from the hospital after two years, Lieut. Commander Wead turned to literature, and was successful from the start.
Last year he wrote the sensational stage play ‘‘Ceiling Zero’’ which ran an entire season on Broadway. This he has turned into a motion picture, and critics
