‘““EAST MEETS WEST’’ ON MAP FOR DEPT. STORE WINDOWS
China Clipper has played an important part in joining eastern and western civilization. Playing on this theme, you might tie in that old ‘east meets west’ idea with cooperating department store window displays. A large map in the center flanked on one side by English and modern effects and on the other by Occidental things (parasols, coolie coats, etc.) might make unusual trim. And, of course, you'll tie-up film with stunt by displaying stills from picture.
CO-OP AD ON PLANE PATTERNS
Many items of feminine clothing are patterned after airplanes. A word or two to department stores and who knows but what they may decide to run an ad, plugging their clothing and your picture.
MERCHANT CO-OP CONTEST —
Idea is for merchants to hand out mileage slips with every purchase—and all entrants attempt to be the first one to fly the China Clipper route to Hawaii. The distance from San Francisco to Hawaii is 2410 miles .. . so that the first person to collect that number of miles wins.
FREE RADIO SKETCH
Twelve minutes of the gripping drama and romance of the picture are incorporated in this dramatic sketch, leaving three minutes at beginning
and end for your plug. A letter to Campaign Plan Editor, 321 West 44th Street, New York City, will bring you a mimeographed copy for each member of the cast.
Idea is for paper to print model airplane that kids cut out and fly If editor likes the idea, here’s how to go about it:
PLANE MODEL PRINTED
At right is facsimile of the model plane that paper publishes. Actual size is about 81/2” » x 11”, and is available in mat form. Along with model is printed information about time
PHEW . piet etiam —especially if they get credit in paper for their generosity.
Park or empty lot can be used for the meet, with you and a few newspaper men acting There will be prizes for those/as judges. You can have prizes for planes which stay up longest, and additional ones for planes which travel farthest before landing. Naturally, among the prizes are several sets of
HOLDING MEET WITHOUT NEWSPAPER
If you'd rather work the stunt on your own, there’s plenty that can be done. print up heralds locally containing model plane, distributing them to youngsters at your theatre and inviting them to join your big Air Meet. Or you might prefer to set up a booth at amusement park or in empty lot, inviting people to try their skill at flying the China Clipper. In this case, you'll offer ducats to anyone who sails plane over some definite distance, say 50 feet. Or, if you want, just use your heralds as giveaways, letting the kids do
them.
Here Are A Number Of
AIR STUNTS FOR USE IN YOUR LOBBY
There’s plenty that can be done in your lobby to give it that airplane atmosphere. In addition to the usual decorations, you might want to try a few of the stunts suggested below.
You can

DIRECTIONS
Cut rectangle out of paper along ruled line. Then fold away from you on Fold (1). Then open and fold where indicated in sequence; ie. Fold (2), (3), etc. On all folds except (6) and (7), fold paper away from you. On (6) and (7), fold toward you. When folding is completed, place clips where indicated.
Model is available in mat form, measuring 81/2” x 11”. Order from Campaign Plan Editor, 321 W. 44th St., N. Y. C. Mat No. 502—50c.
AIR STEWARDESS SERVES If you can promote tea and cookies, you could let your patrons find out
what afternoon tea on an airplane consists of. You dress up a girl in an air stewardess’ costume and let her do the honors at a special matinee.
Possibly travel agency will send over a girl who can answer questions
about flying.
SHORT-WAVE WIRELESS DISPLAY If you can borrow short-wave set from airport or amateur operator, you
could set it up in lobby for patrons to look at.
If possible, get hold of an
operator to demonstrate it. He’ll probably be able to tune in on conver
sations between pilots and airports.

‘BROADCAST’ OVER P. A. SYSTEM
Your P. A. system in lobby and out front can be used to broadcast phony messages to and from pilots. Among the radio plugs suggested elsewhere you'll find one that would be just the thing for use over your P. A. system. Also use it for the sound effect record described elsewhere in this book.
