Listed below are 21 airplane stunts that have been tried and tested and we’re
passing ‘em on again.
Most of ’em are
easy to work and practically costless.
AVIATION TERMS CONTEST
You might plant one-day contest where folks define aviation terms. Best answers nab ducats.
AVIATION DISPLAYS
Think you can borrow airport paraphernalia from local base to decorate front and marquee? Copy tells what your show is about.
PLANE PLUGS SHOW
Local birdman could hoist your P. A. system aboard his plane flying as low as city ordinance permits, and plug your show. Of course, lettering on wings also gives your picture a boost.
FLYING ACES DISPLAY
Crack fliers are always uppermost in peoples’ minds. You might dig up photos of prominent aces from paper’s morgue to blow up for lobby display or contest.
PROPELLERS WHIRL
If you can borrow three propellers, paint ‘em red, white and blue and attach ’em to motor whirling out front.
INVITE FLIERS TO OPENING
If you invite local airmen to opening, their comments might look good out front when blown up.
JR. BIRDMEN COOPERATE Is local unit of Jr. Birdmen in town? If so, hop down and see commander about having boys cooperate with model contest, marching down en masse ballying show.
BALLY WITH MARINES Film has nothing to do with Marine Corps, but inasmuch as flying is dear to "em you might invite local barracks contingent down to opening.
GAL IN PLANE FLOAT
You might use airplane float and stick gal in cockpit, heaving heralds as it drives around streets. Or maybe real plane can be mounted on truck.
KIDS RACE PLANES If kids in town are interested in homemade planes, they might bring ‘em down to city playground where you sponsor air races. Or if too hard to do. . . playground instructor might act as judge to pick best planes in different classes. Chosen planes might be used as lobby display.
SCREENING IN PLANE If local airport manager goes for it, he could take aloft select crew of passengers so that they may see film in the clouds. Act might be good for plenty of breaks— stories, photos, etc.
BOOKSTORES DISPLAY VOLUMES
Bookstores might give window over to aviation technical books, tying in film with illustration you provide.
GAG PARACHUTE CATCH
If your roof lends itself to stunt, you might fix up parachute hanging from pole or other part of roof to give impresh that it was caught in descent. Want to make it look realistic? Hang aviator dummy from ropes.
INQUIRING PHOTOG STUNT Editor might assign newshawk to airport to interview prominents stepping off liners for their comments on modern air travel. If his ear is buzzed... he might include question on how they’d like to ride in China Clipper.
AIR STAMP EXHIBIT
Philatelists (stamp collectors, to you) might be gracious enough to lend you their collection of cancelled air mail stamps for lobby use. Display can be placed within circle surrounded by stills from this and other aviation films.
AVIATION EDITOR ANGLE
Aviation club editor might go to bat on feature story on film. He might even give flicker review which could be cut out, blown up and posted as lobby display.
MODEL BUILDING CONTEST Since all aviation-minded kids are acquainted with looks of China Clipper, you might offer ducats in facsimile model contest. Best replicas nab ’em.
PLANE PHOTO CONTEST
Amateur snappers might enter their best shots of flying planes in lobby contest. Winners reward photogs with free admish to show. You take pictures and mount ‘em on display board for out front or lobby.
TRAVEL WINDOWS DISPLAY
When spotting stills, local travel agency might cooperate by display showing map of China Clipper route.
PILOT DOES NON-STOPPER
Local pilot can plug show, by announcing non-stop flight over town. And if he’s not too busy at controls, he might fling out show’s heralds every once in a while.
TOWN’S AIR DAY
You might contact skipper of local airport about running air day with his crew to furnish the entertainment. He’ll probably line up bunch of stunts that'll get the crowd out. Of course, plug comes in with heralds, placards, float and possibly through use of field’s P. A. system, if permitted. And while fans are looking skyward, it’s as good a time as any for sky writing. If idea goes over with pilot boss, you might make rounds of merchants likely to cooperate with special sales, ads and window displays all helping with stills and window cards.

AIRPLANE RECORDS
There should be several ways you can make use of these two bally records. No. 1036 reproduces noises made by plane’ s whirring motors zooming, tailspinning, etc. Other is No. 1070 and is full of thunder and lightning sounds. Can be used over P. A. system on float, lobby or over air. Order by number, C. O. D. $2 each, from
THOMAS J. VALENTINO 729—7th Avenue New York City
AIRPLANE FLOAT PLUGS FILM
About time to use another float bally? Biggest portion of display could feature plane facsimile, or whatever you can pick up at local airport. A few pretty gals dressed as air stewardesses won’t hurt.
SPINNING MACHINE IN LOBBY
If you can borrow one of those spinning machines that airplane schools use to test pilots, you could display it in lobby and even offer to spin patrons to see how they react.
TIE-UP WITH PHONE COMPANY
A visit to advertising manager of local telephone company might net valuable ads and window displays from him on angle... “The China Clipper made a record breaking flight to Hawaii in 18 hours 16 minutes and yet you can make a telephone call there in 20 minutes.” If they go for idea, you can enlarge on idea... using maps, stills and statistics to get it
