I’m scared sick A hunted man, turned hunter in a desperate attempt to solve the mystery of his wife’s murder, is currently on view as the hard-hitting hero of Warner Bros.’ rousing new drama, “Dark Passage”, which presents the dynamic screen team of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in their third co-starring venture and features Bruce Bennett, Agnes Moorehead and Tom D’Andrea in other top roles. The screenplay, adapted from David Goodis’ novel and produced by Jerry Wald, was written and directed by Delmer Daves, whose accent on action achieves a remarkably breathtaking pace from the film’s tense beginning through to its memorable finish. Reproduced above are notable highlights in the picture’s development: (1) Framed for one murder, Parry (Humphrey = Ss LQ IRENE : the Steadfast | po. They’ll 5—’I could shoot you right now, Parry, and never find you if you go away now!’ collect five thousand bucks for it!’ Bogart), fugitive from the police, is suspicious of lovely Irene (Lauren Bacall) but accepts her offer to hide him after a second murder occurs. (2) Madge (Agnes Moorehead) visits Irene and unwittingly gives the eavesdropping Parry a clue to the murderer’s identity. (3) Forced to clear himself, Parry takes leave of Irene but not until they have admitted their love for each other. (4) Parry’s first step meets with failure when Madge stubbornly refuses to aid him. (5) Later, the mystery almost solved, Parry tangles with small-time blackmailer Baker (Clifton Young) in a violent struggle. A resounding climax, followed by a remarkably different denouement, aids substantially in making “Dark Passage” the thoroughgoing film entertainment that it is.
