Other important members of the band include Lyle Talbot, vice president of the bonding house, a weakling to whom Bette is supposedly betrothed: and whom she bends to her will; Douglas Dumbrille, the master mind, secretly married to Bette ‘and who later slays her when: his fancy turns to another; and Irving Pichel, a go-between, who is also slain by the master mind. _ Donald Woods and Margaret Lindsay have-the romantic: leads, furnishing a lively romance in what is otherwise a story of thrills and fast action. Both, however, are a part of the action,. Miss Lindsay, the sweet young. halfsister of the crooked Bette being kidnaped and spirited aboard a yacht, while Woods is the young reporter who smashes the gang and rescues the fair Margaret with whom he is deeply in love. He was born Lysle Henderson. His father was known throughout the middle west as an actor who toured the smaller towns regularly under his own name, J. Edward Henderson. Lyle’s mother died while the boy was still a baby. His grandmother, his mother’s mother, then adopted him, giving him her married name of Talbot to use as his own. Thus he became legally, Lysle Talbot. Lyle’s grandmother’s name, before her marriage, had been Hollywood. When it came time for Lyle to start his own theatrical career he thought for a time that he would take his grandmother’s maiden name as a stage name and be known as Lysle Hollywood. He changed his mind, however, and went out with his first carnival troupe as Lysle Talbot.
