Here’s a throwaway that'll make them stop and look! Copy is selfexplanatory. Mat is available at your exchange. You can use it as a single sheet with your theatre ad on the back or as the cover of a single-fold throwaway with theatre copy on the inside spread and a dealer ad on the back to defray costs. However you use it, it’s an in
expensive way to get them interested!
Streamers On Taxi Bumpers
Tie up with your local taxicab and bus companies suggesting that all their vehicles carry a sign on their bumpers reading:
“GOODBYE AGAIN— Strand Theatre Now.” By doing this, you can be sure
that the picture’s title will be given an excellent coverage.
Have Staff Say “Goodbye Again”
Instruct all employees of your theatre, particularly the phone operator, ushers and doorman, to say Goodbye Again to patrons leaving the theatre. Start this off two weeks before your opening. When requests for information on your current show come in, after answering them your operator should say, ‘‘Thank you, Goodbye Again.’’ The novelty of this greeting is certain to leave an impression on the inquirer and may even start a vogue among people to repeat the expression when leaving their friends.

NOVEL “CHUCKLE AD” CONTEST FOR CLASSIFIED PROMOTION
Here’s a new slant on the classified ad tie-up and should be easy to plant with your local newspaper and ties in perfectly with this show. Herbert Hyman of the Strand Theatre in Pottstown, Pa., sent us the idea together with a ream of newspaper tear sheets showing the amount of free advertising given the stunt by the cooperating newspaper.
It’s called the CHUCKLE AD CONTEST. “Chuckle Ads,” are just what the name implies. They contain at least four lines—one complete line taken from each of four different classified ads appearing in the newspaper tied in the stunt. But the four combined lines must have coherence and above all be funny.
Title Great for Telegraph Tieup
Local telegraph offices will welcome an opportunity for a window and lobby tie-up on this picture. Using copy along the following lines, have the store give you a window layout with stills and catchlines. Also, in reciprocation, have them make you a jumbo telegram for use in your lobby. Uere’s the tie-up copy:
“DON’T FORGET THAT GOODBYE AGAIN. USE WESTERN UNION TO GET YOUR MESSAGE THERE SPEEDILY, ACCURATELY AND ON TIME.
Your playdate and copy should follow beneath the telegram. If used for a throwaway include in the message the line “AND SEE GOODBYE AGAIN. THE FUNNIEST
COMEDY OF THE YEAR NOW AT THE STRAND.”
For example: taking a line each from four different classified ads we get something like this:
(1) Tall, bright appearing sporting goods salesman
(2) Will accept odd sewing jobs on (3) Well-furnished bright room
(4) For free mail-order catalogue.
It’s a cinch your local newspaper will want to use this novel classified promotion idea because it appeals to everybody.
Start this contest off with this picture. However, first be sure the entire contest gets a strong advance build-up with publicity stories and display advertising.
Tie Up With All Travel Agencies
The title, “Goodbye Again,” is a natural for tie-ups with summer resorts, travel bureaus and _ ticket agencies, especially so since this is the time when people are planning their summer vacations. Contact all these bureaus and suggest that they placard the town with posters reading as follows:

Before You Say Goodbye See “GOODBYE AGAIN” The Comedy Hit of the Year With Joan Blondell—Warren William Now at THE STRAND
LOCAL TRAILER AS ADVANCE STUNT
Here’s an advance stunt that is sure to start them talking! Send a man out with a movie camera to your and bus depots, steamship and ferry piers, and other points where there are likely to be scenes of people saying goodbye. Have him photograph these scenes and any others which he may spot around town, such as men saying goodbye as they leave for work. Then write captions for the shots and run them just before your regular trailer on
SPECIAL 28 by 42 ENLARGEMENT
“Goodbye Again.” Tie in should be: Watch prominent locals’ saying goodbye. Captions for each scene should be done in a humorous vein. If you have a particularly good shot repeat it a couple of times using the caption: They say goodbye again. This will be found to get a big laugh. To be safe, supply the cameraman with releases for the people to sign, giving you permission to use their pictures in the trailer.
