Carol talks the situation over with her friend Diane Ware (Beverly Roberts), and Diane advises her to make a strong play for her boss, despite his wife. Meanwhile, however, Carol becomes interested in a young steel worker Bart King, (Warren Hull), who wins her attention by his audacity and charming self-assurance. In a short time, she and Bart become engaged. On the day that they are planning to be married at City Hall, Bart is sum moned to the deathbed of his father, from whom he has been estranged. Carol goes with him, and is amazed to find that his father is the wealthy Dan Kingdon (Harry Davenport). He gives the pair his blessing and leaves his enormous business interests to Bart. When Bart takes over his father’s business, he retains the secretary who has been there for years, Miss Baldwin (Minerva Urecal) a sour old spinster. But after a few weeks, to everyone’s surprise, she resigns to get married, and at his wife’s suggestion, Bart hires Diane as his new secretary. Gradually, Carol realizes that Bart ee — ee JEAN MUIR—Pure accident brought about a dramatic career for tall, slender Jean Muir (Fullarton) . . . At a crucial moment in Bart’s business affairs, it becomes necessary for him to fly to the Maine woods to see a banker at his hunting lodge, and Diane is to go with him. At the last minute, a wire comes saying that it will not be necessary for him to go, as the banker is returning to New York. Diane tears up the message, so that she and Bart may have the trip together, anyway. When Carol learns that the two of them have gone off together, she follows them. Arriving at the lodge, she finds them in a compromising situation, and after striking Diane, leaves indignantly. A short time later, Bart and Diane smell smoke and realize that a forest fire is headed their way. Frantically trying to escape, Bart falls, and strikes his head. Unconscious, he cannot be moved, and Diane leaves him and runs out of danger herself. But she is met by Carol, who forces her to lead the way to Bart. In a mighty climax, Carol fights her way through the blazing inferno to reach and save the man she loves. BEVERLY ROBERTS—One of Hollywood’s fastest-ascending young actresses is curly-haired, self-reliant Beverly Roberts, in pictures only a year or so... Was born in New York, daughter of well-to-do chemical manufacturer . . . Went adventuring on her own to Paris, nearly starved, finally made a living singing “conversation-songs” ... Was brought back to New York to do same in night clubs . . . Al Jolson liked her style; gave her leading woman’s job in his “The Singing Kid” . . .
