The Story
(Not For Publication)
Set in a major motion picture studio and featuring top Hollywood stars in guest appearances, the hilarity begins with Dennis Morgan’s refusal to be cast in a film directed by Jack Carson. To gain Morgan’s sympathy, Carson promises Doris Day a Hollywood career if she will pose as his wife—an expectant mother in need of funds. Taking pity, Morgan signs the contract, but Carson now brushes off Doris. When no femme star (Jane Wyman faints when asked) wants Carson for a director, Morgan ~ suggests Doris. But she would now rather return to Wisconsin to marry Jeffrey Bushfinkle, her childhood sweetheart. They finally win her over, and plot to bring her to the attention of producer Bill Goodwin, but as they have her turn up as an elevator operator, waitress, taxi dancer, they succeed only in driving him crazy. Discouraged, Doris leaves for home. On the train, Goodwin hears her sing, realizes that he has missed a bet. He chases Morgan and Carson after her, and they arrive in time to see her become the bride of Jeffrey Bushfinkle—played in a surprise ending by none other than Errol Flynn.
