NEWSPAPER COPY “IT’S A GREAT FEELING’ 15 Years Of Wedded Bliss Speak For Dennis Morgan DENNIS MORGAN Still DM-252 Mat 711-1C DORIS DAY Still DD-154 Mat 711-1A JACK CARSON Still JC-174 Mat 711-1B Dashing Dennis Morgan took up the cudgel today in defense of wedded bliss in Hollywood. Morgan is in a position to speak. He and his pretty brunette missus recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary with their three youngsters, two sons and a daughter. Said Dennis: “T don’t think it’s any more difficult for people to enjoy a happy marriage in the motion picture business than any other place in the world. “Except when you’re on location out of town, which isn’t often, you get home at night to be with your family just like men in most overy other business.” Dennis didn’t have to leave town one day in his latest War ner Bros. picture, “It’s A Great Feeling,” a Technicolor comedy of Hollywood life in which he is co-starred with Jack Carson and Doris Day, now at the Strand Dennis continued: “T don’t know any group of people in better positions to lead normal family lives than movie actors. “They’re in a much better position, as an example, than stage people. They have to work every night except one.” Dennis laughed and added: “And what about the traveling salesmen? When it comes to home life, we have a cinch compared to them.” In the film for guest appearances ‘are Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Errol Flynn, Sidney Greenstreet and Pat Neal. Long A Nitery Chanteuse, Doris Day Eschews Gowns Doris Day rated herself today as Hollywood’s No. 1 anti-night life girl. She doesn’t own a single evening gown. You can’t get her to put her foot into a supper club. “T spent almost every night for eight years in evening gowns in night clubs and I don’t want any part of either of. them again in my private life,’ Doris explained. She was referring, of course, to her career as a singer with name bands. That was before she was signed to a contract by Warner Bros. director Michael Curtiz and lfted to overnight fame in “Romance on the High Seas.” She wore an evening gown in that picture and again in “My Dream is Yours.” Doris wears three in her current co-starrer with Dennis Morgan and Jack Carson, “It’s A Great Feeling,’ Warners’ Technicolor comedy of life in Hollywood, coming to the Strand Theatre. “Of course, when movie roles call for me to dress up, I naturally comply,” Doris continued, “That’s part of my work. “But dressing up just for the sake of dressing up—that’s not for me. During the time I was on the road with bands I probably got dressed up four times as much as the average woman would in an entire lifetime. “T’d rather have a trim sports dress, or a pair of slacks, than the most beautiful evening “gown in the world.” Romans Had Says Comic Comic Jack Carson is a little startled after the most exhaustive session of reading in his life. “T have been tracing the history of comedy and you’ll probably be surprised to know that basically it hasn’t changed in 2,000 years,” Jack said. “Some of the jokes they tell now were being kicked around in the days of the Roman empire. Now the joke would be about a banker and his clerk, Then it would be about a senator and a publican. But, that’s about the only difference.” Carson made his disclosure after completing “It’s A Great Same Gags, Jack Carson Feeling,’ Warners’ Technicolor satire on life in Hollywood in which he is co-starred with Dennis Morgan and Doris Day, now at the Strand Theatre. Carson went on: “T’ve always been curious as to when people began to develop a sense of humor, so a few months ago I began to do a lot of reading. “No matter how far back you go, you find evidence that people enjoyed a good laugh. “Come to think of it, the caveman had a big advantage over the present-day comedians. “They certainly couldn’t have lacked fresh material.” Directors Turn Thesp In Warner Bros. Film Four famous directors have just learned there’s many a slip between the script and the lip. The quartet, Michael Curtiz, King Vidor, Raoul Walsh and David Butler, all one-time actors, turned thespians again for brief periods to portray themselves in “It’s a Great Feeling” at Warner Bros. This is the Burbank studio’s Technicolor comedy of Hollywood life costarring Dennis Morgan, Jack Carson and Doris Day, with guest stars Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Errol Flynn and Jane Wyman. Brief as their lines were, none had a perfect take the first time. Butler, who is behind the camera in “It’s A Great Feeling,’ at the Strand, borrowed Curtiz, Vidor and Walsh from their own directorial roles in “Flaming Road,’ “The Fountainhead” and “Colorado Territory” before he undertook to direct himself playing himself. “Mike, King and Raoul took direction perfectly,” he said, “I wasn’t so good myself. Now I know why I gave up acting 21 years ago. For his part, ex-actor Curtiz vowed: “Never again will I bawl out another actor!” Said Vidor: “JT never was so nervous in my life.” Added Walsh: “From now on [ stick to: directing.”’ v JACK CARSON means business, and so does Doris Day in this scene from Warner Bros.’ gay comedy hit, “It’s A Great Feeling.” The Technicolor film, coming to the Strand Theatre, also stars Dennis Morgan.
