“Key Largo” starring five of Hollywood’s top personalities opens Sse at the ........ Theatre. Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Lionel Barrymore and Claire Trevor are the stars in the Warner Bros. re-release.
Set in a hurricane-battered Florida hotel, the story is a fast-paced drama. Robinson, trying to rule with his iron fist, and Bogart’s challenge provide the force and action in the story. The not-so-innocent bystanders in the drama are Lionel Barrymore as the strong-willed hotel keeper, Lauren Bacall, whose nowfamous “look” is given full play in the film and Claire Trevor, an Academy Award winner for her “Key Largo” role.
The distinctive talents of the stars and the top supporting cast are united by the direction of John Huston. Huston, who won a double Academy Award for his direction and writing of “Treasure Of Sierra Madre,” also collaborated on the screenplay of “Key Largo.”
The highlight of “Key Largo” is the hurricane scene in which dramatic conflicts are resolved. There is plenty of gunplay as Robinson and Bogart fight it out for the top man position.
