Ancient House Proves Perfect Movie Setting
The little city of Burbank, whose chief fame comes from the fact that it is the site of the Warner Bros. Studio, has grown so quickly during the past decade that even most of its present day inhabitants think of it as almost a new town, but evidently the studio’s location department is much better posted on its history.
For a scene in “Man Hunt,” which comes to the ..... ies Theatre on > 1twas necessary to find a house which was typical of the middle class homes in American small towns in the nineteenth century. A house which fits the specifications perfectly was located within a mile and a half of the studio. In the picture, it is shown as the home of Chie Sale, who plays one of the leading roles.
It is actually the home of Earl Robinson, who operates a gasoline station patronized by many studio employees. Robinson doesn’t know exactly how old the house is, but he was born in it more than forty years ago and has lived in it ever since.
“Man Hunt” combines tense, exciting melodrama and hilarious comedy in which a small town newspaperman scoops the big city reporters on the capture of a notorious bank robber and killer.
Besides Chic Sale the cast includes Ricardo Cortez, Marguerite Churchill, William Gargan, Richard Purcell, Olin Howland, Addi
chards, George KE. Stone : 1ita Kerry.

Because she is more interested in writing the history of desperadoes who infested the region half a century ago, Jane Carpenter (Marguerite Churchill) teacher of the school at Coasterville, Kans., is discharged. She and her sweetheart, Hank Dawson (William Gargan) who is the entire editorial staff of the Weekly Clarion, decide to elope to Chicago, when word comes that Frank Kingman (Ricardo Cortez) a notorious bank bandit has escaped from jail.
A corps of Federal Agents, headed by Mel Purdue come to town, followed by many newspaper reporters. Kingman hides in the schoolhouse where Jane discovers him. Impressed by his story of police persecution, Jane hides him in a shack near an abandoned mine. Hank discovers this and tips off the ‘‘G Men,” but Jane warns the bandit who hides out in the brush when the detectives arrive.
Hank is the object of ridicule on the part of the big city reporters and the anger of the officers who think he has been fooling them. A message from Kingman takes Jane to the shack, where she is tied up. Kingman and his pals make plans to rob the town bank. Hank, who has followed Jane, hears this, and when the bandits leave, sets the girl free.
Hank and Jane try to warn the officers but they will not listen, believing he is trying to pull another hoax, and the officers and reporters follow a false clue to an adjoining town. Hank starts a rumor that the bank is unsound and a run results that cleans it out of cash before the robbers arrive.
Old Ed Hoggins (Chic Sale) a former sheriff, fires at the fleeing bandits with a shotgun and destroys a tire on their automobile. The crooks take to the woods where they are finally rounded up by Purdue and his men.
Hank, having figured out what would happen, had already prepared a story, and gets his yarn to the Associated Press before the big city newspapermen even knew what was happening.
