BEN LYON LILA LEE LOUISE FAZENDA — LUCIEN LITTLEFIELD — EMILY FITZROY A FIRST NATIONAL & VITAPHONE PICTURE FAZENDA BELIEVES “Misbehaving Ladies” GOOD FOOD AIDS FRIENDSHIP Soon to be Seen Here in “Misbehaving Ladies” First National (Advance Reader) Everybody in Hollywood knows that Louise Fazenda, featured in “Misbehaving Ladies,” the First National production which comes to the Theatre next, likes good food, knows how to prepare it, and is never so happy as when dispensing it to people who are, or are not, in need of it. One of her delightful habits is to arrive on the set with an old-fashioned overgrown lunch basket packed to capacity with good things. On being introduced she is apt to blurt genially, “Have a cookie—have some real home-made chocolate cake—try this crab-apple jelly—we used to eall it ‘jel’ in Indiana!” “It’s great to work with Louise in a picture,” says Lucien Littlefield, who is paired with her in “Misbehaying Ladies.” “A few more films with her and I’ll be able only to roll off the set, instead of walk.” “Misbehaving Ladies” is a small town story with a home-grown Italian princess, arriving to make things hum. Lila Lee heads the cast with Ben Lyon, others are Julia Swayne Gordon, Emily Fitzroy, Martha Mattox, Virginia Gray and Oscar Apfel. The picture is based on a story by Juliet Wilbor Tompkins. Julien Josephson did adaptation and dialogue. The director is William Beandine. Page Six will give you the best time you've had in a Therell Be A Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight! It is a water motor to work from faucets. Theatre next, when First National’s “Misbehaving Ladies” opens its engagement. Satire was known in silent films, but it takes the Vitaphone to make it riotous entertainment. American rural life, European noble society are criticized with whimsical good nature as the plot develops. Gold Diggers on Main Street! | Noah Bebe Daniels and Lila Lee Are Much Alike Says Ben Lyon (Current Reader) Ben Lyon, one time play-boy of Hollywood, is paired with Lila Lee in the current film, while in real life he is the husband of Bebe Daniels. “T was glad to play opposite Miss Lee in ‘Misbehaving Ladies,’ says Lyon, “because she reminds me in so many ways of my wife—and whatever they may think of the comparison, it’s complimentary to them both!” Lyon plays opposite Miss Lee in First National’s “Misbehaving Ladies,” the rollicking, human comedy now playing at the Theatre. Also included in the cast are Louise Fazenda, Lucien Littlefield, Julia | Swayne Gordon, Emily Fitzroy, Mar tha Mattox and other film favorites. William Beaudine directed “Misbehaving Ladies,” which was adapted by Julian Josephson from the story | by Juliet Wilbor Tompkins. The love story enacted by Miss Lee and Lyon has many unusual angles, including the almost literal kidnapping of a small-town swain by an Italian princess. Genial Miss Fitzroy Plays Stern Dame in “Misbehaving Ladies” (Advance Story) Emily Fitzroy, the character actress who is cast prominently in “Misbehaving Ladies,” a First National production which opens an engagement next at the Theatre, doesn’t in the least relish being called “the granite woman of the sereen,” “the Cromwellian mother,” and other appellations which critics have attached to her, but she encourages their doing so because she has won a unique place for herself in that type of role. Miss Fitzroy presents the same paradox created by Fred Kohler, Beery, Edward G. Robinson and other players whose screen parts afford them no sympathy from an audience, An interesting conversationalist, accommodating, genial and with a_ highly developed sense of humor, she is off-sereen the most pleasant of persons. She has been cast as a disagreable and often cruel woman ever since her memorable characterization in “Way Down East.” The only time she has had a disagreement with her employers was when a movie company wanted to bill her as “the woman you love to hate.” She flatly balked at that. Miss Fitzroy appears in “Mishehaving Ladies” as a member of a cast which includes Lila Lee, Ben Lyon, Louise Fazenda, Lucien Littlefield, Julia Swayne Gordon, Martha Mattox, Virginia Grey and Oscar Apfel. Lila Disguises In Blonde Wig To Set Home Gossips Agog (Advance Story) Lila Lee, a perfect brunette, for the first time in her career appears as a blonde in “Misbehaving Ladies,” a First National picture which comes to the Theatre next. Lila portrays the widow of a bankrupt European prince who visits her old hometown in the United States and dresses up in court robes to give the village a treat. She wears a silver wig and a regal flowing gown of blue velvet in several sequences. But after that Lila of the lovely Spanish coloring is her own attractive self again, Miss Lee is supported in “Misbehaving Ladies” by Ben Lyon, Louise Fazenda, Lucien Littlefield, Julia Swayne Gordon, Emily Fitzroy, Martha Mattox, Virginia Grey, and Osear Apfel. William Beaudine directed the film which is from a story by Juliet Wilbor Tompkins. OF A.H.BLANK ; Dim Getting More Laughs And Applause Than Any Show In Town! From a crowd of extras the casting director must pick the characters which will be instantly recognized as members of a group—whether they be small town loafers—members of a group of radicals—big business men in conference—or barroom habitues. Never has Mr. Mayberry done better work than “Misbehaving Ladies,” which features Lila Lee, Ben Lyon, Louise Fazenda, Lucien Littlefield and other favorites. According to Director William Beaudine, the extras that Mayberry supplied for various scenes of the piecture tell the story by their mere appearance. The picture, which is based on the serial by Juliet Wilbor Tompkins, afforded particular opportunities for this group characterization. One of the groups of characters selected by Mayberry was a collection of American Cook’s tourists, who are being taken into the castle of an Italian princess, who is in reality a former American village girl. Another typical group is a reception committee of American citizens welcoming the princess back to her home town. LOUISE CAN COOK Louise Fazenda is noted for her home cooking. During nearly every picture she makes she throws a party on the set, and treats members of the cast to some of her home baked cake. She is now appearing in “Misbehav ing Ladies,” the First National ~ ture at the
