Executives note an increased demand for the lighter films.” An effective answer to this demand is the Strand’s next feature film offering, “My Love Came Back,” which will have its first local showing on Friday. “My Love Came Back” is a frothy comedy of errors, sparkling with wit and charm. Olivia deHavilland, fresh from her triumph as Melanie in “Gone With The Wind”, has a refreshingly different role as a poor — but temperamental — violin student who learns about love from Jeffrey Lynn, who plays a handsome — but serious young business executive. In the featured supporting cast pert Jane Wyman, blonde dynamo of “Flight Angels,” and Eddie Albert, young Broadway musical comedy star who is currently conquering Hollywood, are cast as a romantic twosome who are almost as much in love with swing music as they are with each other. Charles Winninger, as an oldster with youthful ideas, is at his superbly comical best, and Spring Byington has a charming role as his extremely wise and understanding wife. The screen play by Ivan Goff, Robert Buckner and Earl Bald win, based on a story by Walter Reisch, is alive with gay comedy situations delightful romance and a clever use of swing and classical music to advance the plot. Kurt Bernhardt has the direction and has made the most of the charm and talents of a brilliant cast. Olivia deHavilland In Romantic Film Comedy Olivia deHavilland, excellent young actress that she is, has momentarily forsaken — such heavy drama as her memorable Melanie of “Gone With The Wind,” for the role of Amelia Cullen, the gay young heroine of ‘My Love Came Back,” the laugh-provoking romantic Warner Bros. musical comedy at the Strand Theatre on Friday. In the early sequences you'll find the lovely Olivia portraying a needy violin student in love with her work. Later she falls in love with handsome Jeffrey Lynn, while practically every other male in the picture is smitten with the beautiful damsel! Strand audiences will cheer the new comedy since it combines all the elements that make for perfect entertainment. The cast, in addition to Olivia deHavilland and Jeffrey Lynn, includes such likeable celebrities as befuddled Eddie Albert, pert Jane Wyman, Charles Winninger, Spring Byington, Ann Gillis, and William T. Orr. ‘My Love Game Back’ At Strand Friday Beginning Friday the Strand Theatre will show “My Love Came Back,” Warner Bros.’ gay, romantic, musical comedy. The film stars Olivia deHavilland and Jeffrey Lynn, two of Hollywood’s youngest and best-liked players. Miss deHavilland’s star has risen considerably since her amazing performance in a leading role in “Gone With The Wind,” while Mr. Lynn received plaudits from the nation’s critics for his brilliant impersonation of Joyce Kilmer, valiant soldierpoet of “The Fighting 69th.” In “My Love Came Back” these attractive personalities portray young people on their way up in the world. The girl is a brilliant music student who must rely on the benefits of a scholarship “donated” by an elderly admirer so that she may further her promising career as a concert violinist. The boy is a rising young executive in the elderly admirer’s firm, and is saddened when he believes the worst about the “May and December” affair between his employer and the girl he loves. A grand cast pitches in to make the comic situations among the most richly amusing you’ve ever seen.
