Although there are numerous film actors and actresses who are -married to each other and fre“quently husbands and wives ap

amber of film stars who appear opposite each other in the same picture as the leads is small in‘deed. One notable couple that managed to keep the stars’ salaries -and the spotlight in the family is Ben Lyon and his wife, who is vknown to the screen world as Bebe ‘Daniels. Both are featured in “Warner Bros. “My Past,’ now at coe... Lheatre.
One would imagine that husbands and wives would prefer playing opposite their own mate rather than see the better, or worse, half making love} to some one else. Whatever may be the preference of film stars, the fact remains that not only do they rarely | appear with each other in the same, film, but in most cases couples have} found it more to their liking to work | for different companies. Somehow the green-eyed monster of jealousy doesn’t make his presence felt as keenly when couples are working at studios. There is no chance for one to accuse the other of unduly prolonging a kiss or making love with a tenderness not called for (according to a jealous mind) in the script.
Of course, apart from the prefer
ence of the artists, producers must}
have certain types to play certain roles, and in very few cases do the husband and wife both happen to be the types required. George Arliss and his wife played opposite each

Then again film stars are invariably jealous of their careers. A girl may be blind to her actor husband’s failings in everyday life, or vice versa, but on the stage it is every man for himself in so far as capability is concerned. No headliner will take a chance of her starring vehicle being weakened by a mediocre performance of a mere husband. And because it is one of life’s frailties to feel keenly an adverse criticism which suffers by comparison with a laudatory account by a reviewer of the other half of the family in the same film, married picture stars. are loath to appear opposite each other.

Making love to Bebe in “My Past” was the most enjoyable piece of work Ben Lyon ever had to do, coming as it did tmmediately after their marriage. Bebe Daniels, who is featured in: s daring story of modern love, | had a stage career as remarkable as | her screen experience. Miss Daniels | was ten weeks old when she made her | first appearance by being carried on |
i the stage in a comedy, “Jane.” At the
age of four she toured in “Richard | I1f.” Later she played in “The Royal | Family,” “Zaza” and “The Squaw Man” in stock in Los Angeles.
Lewis Stone, who has an impertant ; role in “My Past,” played on the} legitimate stage for almost fifteen | years. “Sidetracked” was his first! play. He has created hundreds of | screen characters, one of his latest being in “The Office Wife.”
Ben Lyon, who plays the part of Miss Daniels’ youthful lover, was seventeen years old when he made his theatrical debut, appearing, oddly enough, in Booth Tarkington’s “Seventeen.” He later played in “The Wonderful Thing” opposite Jeanne Eagels and in “Three Live Ghosts.” He recently appeared on the screen in “Tell’s Angels.”
Joan Blondell, who rose to prominence as a screen comedienne in “The Office Wife,’ “Sinners’ Holiday” and “Sllicit,’ and plays a prominent part in “My Past,” has had wide experience behind the footlights, playing on the Broadway stage in such productions as “Tarnish,” “The Trial of Mary Dugan,” “My Girl Friday,” ‘Maggie, the Magnificent,” and other successes. Joan toured with her parents all over the world, appearing in Ikurope, China, Australia, Canada and. other places. Her father is the original “Katzenjammer Kid.”
Natalie Moorehead, who plays the unresponsive wife in the picture, jumped from a Hollywood stage success into the talkies. Miss Moorehead played in “The Baby Cyclone” in Trenton, New Jersey, and came to Hollywood for Henry Duffy to appear in the same play. Since then she has been one of the very busiest players in talking pictures.
Three other members of the cast of “My Past,’ Albert Gran of “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” Virginia Sale and Daisy Belmore have also had wide stage experience.
“My Past” is a sophisticated story of modern love adapted for the screen by Charles Kenyon from the novel of , the same name. Roy Del Ruth directed.

The private lives of famous stars of the stage and screen are known only to a select few. The glamour of publicity hides the real persons. The aura of popularity throws a shining light around them. Gossip, which may: or may not start innocently enough, is usually greatly distorted before it has been tossed to many mouths. All these facts contribute to keeping the actual personal lives of famous film and footlight favorites away from the public in general. |
The real private life of a legitimate stage star is revealed in “My Past,” the Warner Bros. and Vitaphone screen version of the widely discussed novel which features Bebe Daniels, now at the... . Theatre.
In her role as an alluring woman who is loved by two men, Miss Daniels has one of the most colorful roles of her brilliant career. The story deals intimately with her life behind the
scenes.
Ben Lyon and Lewis Stone enact partners in business and very close friends, but rivals for the hand of the actress.
The cast also includes Joan Blondell, Natalie Moorehead, Virginia Sale, Albert Gran, Daisy Belmore and others. Roy Del Ruth directed “My Past.”
*“My Past’’ Lauded
“My Past,” the Warner Bros. production featuring Bebe Daniels, Ben Lyon and Lewis Stone, and now showing at the .... Theatre, is a profound and beautiful story of the loves of two men, one of them young, and the other past the prime of life. It is a story of renunciation and the three principals have never appeared to better advantage than in_ this unusual story.
