NEWSPAPER COPY “NIGHT UNTO NIGHT,” Warner Bros.’ “NIGHT UNTO NIGHT romantic drama_ set against the Florida tropics, co-stars Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors. Coming to the Strand Theatre soon. Still 673-502 Mat 673-2C TROPICAL ROMANCE NEXT AT STRAND A pulsating dramatic story set against a background of swaying palms, moonlit tropic nights and smart Florida gold coast decor, is “Night Unto Night,” the Warner Bros. picture starring Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, which comes into the Strand Theatre on Friday. Reagan who played a comedy role in “John Loves Mary,” plays a chemist who arrives in k'lorida for some quiet only to run into the mysterious beauty of Viveca Lindfors, the Swedish star who recently played opposite Errol Flynn in ‘“Adventures of Don Juan.” Tension mounts quickly when the sister of Miss Lindfors, played by Osa Massen, enters the romantic picture which reaches a climax in a driving tropical hurricane. The natural setting for the drama, usually reserved for gay musical comedies, lends a unique aspect to the story. The picture, from the novel by Philip Wylie, was directed by Don Siegel, former national tennis star, now a Hollywood director. ACTOR CATALOGS PET AVERSIONS “Women who make up in public,’ Broderick Crawford inevitably answers when asked for his pet aversion. He’ll hasten to add, though, that he does not set himself up to be an expert on the female of the species, and he is sure that there must be six million things that women don’t like about him. If pressed for his likes and dislikes—as he was on the set of Warner Bros.’ “Night Unto Night,” in which he plays in support of the two leading stars, Ronald Reagan ‘and Viveca Lindfors, he’ll enlarge on the subject. “T like smart-looking women —women who put a little effort into their appearance before going out. And I like women who talk—that is, if they have something to say. Deliver me from the ones who try to be cute, though. Or those who start gabbling about the gusset on the pleat on the ruffle of their new frock with other women, while the men sit around looking glum and useless. setae MEET THE BOY FRIEND. A dramatic moment in Warner Bros.’ drama, “Night Unto Night,” between Ronald Reagan and Craig Stevens with Osa Massen, Now showing at the Strand. Still 673-43 6 Mat 673-2A (General Advance) RONALD REAGAN, VIVECA LINDFORS = CURRENTLY SHOWING IN TROPIC DRAMA A vivid melodrama, Warner Bros.’ “Night Unto Night,” set against the lush Florida tropics, and co-starring the team of Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors opens next Friday at the Strand Theatre. Reagan, fresh from his comedy triumph in “John Loves Mary,” is cast in a dramatic assignment here. Miss Lindfors, who shot to popularity on the American screen with her vibrant performance in the lavish Technicolor romance, “Adventures of Don Juan” with Errol Flynn, has her most dramatic role in “Night Unto Night.” She is considered one of the most arresting personalities to appear on_ the screen during the past year. Broderick Crawford, Rosemary DeCamp and Osa Massen complete the roster of important supporting roles. This is adapted from the novel by Philip Wylie. Don Siegel directed the production, with Franz Waxman responsible for the musical frame. (Current Reader) NIGHT UNTO NIGHT ON STRAND SCREEN Conflicting emotions figure ir Warner Bros.’ latest romantic drama, “Night Unto Night’ which co-stars Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, currently on view at the Strand Theatre. The setting for this drama is in Florida and one of the more spectacular highlights of the film is a hurricane sequence. All of the wild terror of such a storm is clearly depicted in the film, and moulded into the dramatic motivation with sharp reality by Director Don Siegel. Both Miss Lindfors and’ Reagan play roles which are replete with inner dramatic conflicts, and only by the sheer force of strong will power are they able to overcome their problems and meet happiness. Important supporting roles are played by Broderick Crawford, Rosemary De Camp and Osa Massen. “Night Unto Night” is from the Philip Wylie novel of the same name. Music is by Franz Waxman. Storm Set By Experts The Erbes family, sometimes called ‘the storm kings of Hollywood’ staged the Florida hurricane sequence for Warner Bros.’ dramatic offering, “Night Unto Night” starring Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, now on view at the Strand Theatre. Most of the Florida hurricane, which traps Ronald Reagan, Viveca Lindfors, Osa Massen, Broderick Crawford and others of the cast of “Night Unto Night” inside a huge old seaside home in Florida, as described in the Philip Wylie novel, was staged on the Warner lot proper, on and around the set built inside one of the huge sound stages there. For that William P. Iirbes head of the studio plumbing department, needed the two extra pumps and the two nearly new steamers he bought for the studio recently from Army surplus. He also used the entire Warner stock of wind machines, big and little, and he guaranteed to rattle the rafters of the great old grey house in which the company spends an uneasy and dramatic night during the climatic storm. (Opening Tomorrow) ‘Night Unto Night’ At Strand Tomorrow “Night Unto Night,’ Warner Bros.’ romantic drama, starring Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, adapted from Philip Wylie’s powerful novel of the same title, opens tomorrow at the Strand Theatre. Besides Reagan’s return to drama in the film, great interest surrounds Viveca, known as Sweden’s ranking screen and stage actress, and now skyrocketing across the American screen as a dynamic personality. This is her first role since “Adventures of Don Juan.” Viveca had 15 European films to her credit when she was signed by Warner Bros. She is a graduate of the Royal Dramatic Academy and a former star of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. Plays Tricks: With Age In Warner Bros.’ dramatic film, which opens Friday at the Strand, Rosemary DeCamp plays a character exactly opposite in every way from the one she portrayed in her last screen appearance. In the Ann Sheridan starrer, ‘Nora Prentiss,” Miss DeCamp enacted the cold, almost shrewish wife of Kent Smith; for “Night Unto Night,” which stars Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, she appears as the patrician, serene and understanding wife of an artist. It can also be said of Miss DeCamp that in her screen career she accomplishes the dream of every woman; she _ becomes younger every year. Her first roles were as wrinkled elderly women, and as such she appeared in “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” and in “Rhapsody in Blue.” In “Night Unte Night,” which stars Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors as she has in a number of previous vehicles, she will dispense with makeup-department wrinkles and appear as a young woman of her own age and personality. Wins Sister Role Because of Accent In a world full of car dealers, junk dealers, meat dealers, ad infinitum, Osa Massen is the only one to come off with a unique trade—she deals in Scandinavian accents. Warner Bros.’ “Night Unto Night,” co-starring Ronald Reagan and Viveca Lindfors, coming Friday at the Strand Theatre, uses Osa as the naughty girl sister of the Swedish star. Ex-Tennis Champ Don Siegel, who directed Ronald Reagan and _ Viveca Lindfors in Warner Bros.’ dramatic offering, “Night Unto Night” currently on view at the Strand Theatre, teamed with Pauline Betz, tennis champ, in 1935 when as partners they won the California mixed doubles. be ROMANCE.
