It brings out the conflict between the love of a foster mother, Susie, who is a “fence,” but who has raised the boy .to go straight, and the chorus girl, whom she does not think is good enough for him. That love is giving, rather than merely taking, is the basis of the story, and, each in her own way, the foster mother, played by Helen Ware, and Billie Dove, makes vital sacrifices for the boy, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. Whether these sacrifices are justified will be a matter of opinion. John Francis Dillon directed the picture, from a story by Frederick Hazlitt Brennan, which was adapted by Forrest Halsey and Kathryn Scola. Included in the cast are Tully Marshall, James Crane, John Loder and Claude Fleming. Actor In Earthquake Claude Fleming hails from Australia, but got his start in acting in San Francisco.
