Keith Douglas, in the role of an author of mystery stories, and Lucile Fairbanks, as one of the thousands who seek passage from Hongkong because of impending trouble, are the leading characters in this unique mystery film. Keith is arrested an‘ accused of murder when a British officer is found stabbed to death by a knife that had been given to Keith as a gift. In his effort to explain how he came into possession of the knife, he becomes more deeply involved. The most mysterious angle of the crime is its time element. Keith, who had the room next to that of the murdered: man, claims that he heard a struggle and a shot exactly at midnight but three people (one of them a police officer) try to persuade him to fix the time of the crime a half hour earlier. Miss Fairbanks, who Keith had promised to aid in her effort to leave Hongkong, decides to stay until he is cleared of the crime. After many a harrowing experience of both Keith and Miss Fairbanks, the crime_is solved and results in one of the most surprising climaxes ever filmed. It is said that the ending is so startling that even the most ardent armchair sleuth will be amazed. Paul Cavanagh, Richard Ainley and Marjorie Gateson are featured in the supporting cast. “Passage From Hongkong” was directed by D. Lucile Fairbanks and Keith Douglas come through with very fine performances as two stranded Americans in Hongkong. They would give anything to leave the place which is seething with trouble, but find that very trouble following them with a persistency that seems uncanny.
