None of them could compare, however, with some screams she made while out of character. Wearing a bulky polo coat and dark glasses, she was making the rounds of one of the amusement piers with her sister. In a spirit of bravado, the two girls decided to go on the roller coaster since Margaret had never been on one before. She lost all pretense of bravery as soon as it made its first terrific dive. She let loose with some particularly piercing screams and kept it up until the coaster stopped. As the wan actress tottered out, two youths who sat in front and had turned around, amazed at such vocal exhibitions, stopped her. One of them said: “Lady, with a yell like that, you ought to get into the movies!” Miss Lindsay has the role of an ambitious wife in “Personal Maid’s Secret,” a rollicking comedy with tense dramatic situations and a fascinating romanee, based on a Saturday Evening Post story by Lillian Day. Judging by the way the audiences roared over the novel have scored another hit, but the pic situations, Warner Bros. ture is by no means all comedy, for there are tense dramatic moments that held patrons with bated breath. Miss Lindsay does a clever bit of acting as-the ambitious wife who has the foresight to see that judicious spending will bring them contacts with business men and socially prominent families, which in turn means financial success. ; And although the husband fumes and frets about the family budget, which is never balanced, he finally awakens to the fact that his wife was entirely right. Warren , Hull, former musical comedy and radio star, displays great talent in his first film role as the husband. Ruth Donnelly has the role of . the maid who is the real inspira tion behind the rise to fortune. She it is who stimulates the wife to make social acquaintances and to entertain them in a lavish way in order that they may travel in the circle where money flows. Miss Donnelly, although she plays a semi-comedy role to start with, is given an opportunity in this picture to show her dramatic ability. In a tensely dramatic scene she reveals to her daughter that she, the maid, is her mother, although the girl thinks her real parents are the wealthy and aristocratie persons by whom she has been brought up. Anita Louise, as her daughter, and Frank Albertson, play the romantic roles and are an unusually pleasing pair of screen lovers. Arthur Treacher is riotously funny as a stiff necked butler who insists on patronizing the maid, although quite in love with her. Others in the cast who do excellent work are Henry O’Neill, Ronnie Cosby, Gordon Elliott, Florence Fair and Maude Turner Gordon. Arthur Greville Collins has done a splendid job of directing Although “Personal Maid’s Secret” is Collins’ first film production, he has had long experience as a dialogue director, and as a director of stage productions. He brought out of the humor and pathos of the film play and kept the action moving swiftly to its climax. The screen play was written by F. Hugh Herbert and Lillie Hayward who caught the spirit of the story and made it an amusing as well as touching film production.
