Danny offers to get a picture of a fireman who has gone insane and taken a shot at one of the staff. Danny gets the picture and a job as photographer and _ picture snatcher, under McLean the city editor. He attracts the attention of Allison, the sob sister of the tabloid, but Danny finding that she is MeLean’s girl, however, and will have nothing to do with her as he plays straight with a pal. Patricia visits the newspaper office with a group of journalistic students and Danny falls in love with her. He visits her at her home and discovers she is the daughter of Casey Nolan, a police lieutenant who had sent Danny to prison. Through McLean, a promotion is obtained for Nolan, who is led to believe that Danny was instrumental in getting it. He decides that Danny should have his chance to go straight, and permits him to see Patricia. Nolan is placed in charge of newspaper men who are invited by the warden of Sing Sing to witness the electrocution of a woman. The tabloid is such a scandalous sheet that no invitation has been issued to any member of its staff. Danny, however, manages to acquire an invitation, and through Nolan gets into the execution chamber. Danny, who has a small camera strapped to his ankle, gets a picture of the woman in the death chair. Nolan discovers what Danny has done and swears to get him dead or alive. McLean hides Danny in Allison’s apartment, she being sent out of the city on a story. Allison sneaks back to her apartment and Danny is trying to get rid of her when McLean walks in. He thinks Danny is double crossing him and they quarrel. Later they meet in a speakeasy and make up. McLean tells Danny he has quit the tabloid, and is unable to get another job because of his drinking. Danny learns that one of the members of his old gang, who had doublecrossed him, has killed two policemen. He decides to trap him and give McLean the scoop. Through the thug’s girl he learns where he is hiding and goes after him. The police follow Danny to the apartment and open fire on the place and finally kill the thug. Nolan is one of the officers who rush into the apartment. Danny explains to the police captain that he came to the apartment under Nolan’s instructions and the latter is given credit for the capture. Danny has taken pictures of the thug and turns them over to McLean. Both get a job on a respectable paper, and then McLean brings together Danny and Patricia.
