To understand Miss Lindsay, this story must be told again.
She was born Margaret Kies on September 19, 1910, in Dubuque, Iowa. Her family was prominent socially, without an actor in the lot. Nevertheless, Margaret, in common with a
back riding, but her favorite sport is greyhound racing. If the hounds are running anywhere near Hollywood, you’ll find her there. Between pictures, she likes to go to some quiet resort to ride and swim. She eats what she likes, but when resting she shuns solid food for one day a week, taking only liquid food. She isn’t fussy about beauty aids, but advises that one

movie star. So she was packed off to National Park Seminary in Washington, D.C., which is ‘‘tops’’ socially, but which, ineidentally, has given a number of talented actresses to the stage and screen. She majored in dramaties and, in her senior year, carried off nearly all the school honors. Don’t forget this when you try to analyze her career.

Next she entered with American Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated with honors. That was fine, but there
were no jobs waiting in New York, so Miss Lindsay sailed to England and found an Opening in London. She also acquired a perfect English accent.
Back in New York, she found the theatre situation no better than before, so off she went to Hollywood. For six months she played minor roles, and then came what is known as the “Great Deception.”
A picture called ‘‘Cavalcade” was going into production. It had to have an all English cast. So the girl from Iowa took her accent to the studio and landed the job. You remember — she was the girl on the Titanic.

Now that you know Miss Lindsay, you’ll understand what she does when she’s not working. She reverts to Iowa tempered with a couple of college educations, much travelling and more reading.
She is fond of music, and attends many concerts, favoring the music of Brahms and Bach, the operas of Wagner, the symphonies of Beethoven and the melodies of George Gershwin.
She loves dancing, and has studied it seriously. If she stopped acting, she would like to teach dramaties and dancing. She reads a great deal.

If she likes you, she'll take you shopping and give you a lesson in economics. She buys three pairs of the same shade of stockings and two pairs of identical gloves, so if one is ruined the remaining good one can be worn with another pair. She-also has other Iowa “thrift” habits.

peak of her career. Then she'll be willing to consider marriage and domesticity.
She travels a lot between pictures. She knows both England and Germany well, but recently has remained in the United States, which she believes offers everything to be found in the rest of the world except dirty hotels, which she doesn’t miss at all. She believes the picturesque, accompanied by filth, is much more fun to read about than to live in. For herself, she likes places where there is plenty of water, both hot and cold, and where it is used for scrubbing as well as for soup.
Incidentally, she likes to cook.

Miss Lindsay prefers to buy her clothes in New York, and if pressed will admit the shops there are superior to those in Iowa. But she still likes Iowa, even if she doesn’t spend much time there.

talent for drawing. She likes to write also, and some of her AFTER HOURS are devoted to this.
Naturally, a girl with the cultural background of Margaret Lindsay would be a devotee of the theatre. Many of her AFTER HOURS in New York are spent watching the work of other actors, and she never misses a good play when she comes to Hollywood.

She is free from affectation, but traces of the carefully acquired English accent occasionally are heard.

All in all, Miss’ Lindsay’s AFTER HOURS are spent exactly as you would expect a girl like Margaret Lindsay to spend them. She lives with a younger sister, who is her constant companion. She has many admirers, and often attends Hollywood affairs. She likes outdoor sports and is good at most of them. She attends baseball and football games as well as whippet races, and is also partial to fine horses. She reads, studies, paints and works.
