“Puslic ENEMY’s WIFE”
Margaret Lindsay Shows New Styles In Latest Film
Margaret Lindsay, who is always a joy to the designers because of her tall, slender figure and ability to wear clothes easily, has one of the most extensive wardrobes of her screen career in ‘*Public Enemy’s Wife,’’ her latest Warner Bros. picture, which Comes -tow thew. ai saccone Theatre OMe tate ieee.
Designed by Orry-Kelly, the costumes form a smart style parade that might be titled ‘‘what to wear on all occasions,’’ since negligees, pajamas, evening clothes, svorts things, a riding habit and all the accompanying accessories are included. In fact, there is a wedding, just to make the wardrobe complete.
Something of a novelty, in the realm of riding clothes, is introduced by Orry-Kelly, since instead of the usual tan breeches, the actress wears jodphurs that are almost an apricot shade. Combined with brown tweed coat, pigskin gloves and a natural shantung shirt, the effect is at once unusual and arresting.
As the beautiful ex-wife of a gangster, seeking romance and forgetfulness in Florida’s high society, Margaret Lindsay also has some especially glamorous evening clothes in ‘‘Publie Enemy’s Wife.’’ One, of a pale blue, sheer cotton crepe, designed for Southern resort wear, and Northern Summers, presents an unusually low V-neckline, both front and back, while the wide-shouldered bodice is shirred into a high, inverted waistline, indicating, perhaps, a change in present modes.
Margaret Lindsay’s two-piece suit is the basis of her wardrobe, for the black wool skirt, straight and slim, can be worn with its contrasting jacket of black and white checks over a simple white
blouse.
Guard Skin In Summer Warns Margaret Lindsay
Beware of Sun Lines is Advice of Co-Star of ‘Public Enemy’s Wife”
‘Skin must be guarded more carefully during the summer than at any other time of the year,’’ says Margaret Lindsay, lovely young Warner Bros. star who has the title role in ‘‘Public Enemy’s Wife,’’ which opens at the .................... Theatre

‘The summer sun does more damage to delicate com
plexions than any other one thing,” she went on. “Whether you decide to tan or to retain your own fair white skin, you should take every precaution to protect the delicate under-tissues from absorbing the light and heat that results in a leathery skin and deep-rooted lines.
“To begin with, it’s no longer smart to be a nut-brown maid. Instead, today’s vogue is for a delicious honey-gold creaminess of skin that leaves no injurious effects. And to obtain this lovely honey-gold you must be assiduous in your devotion to and your use of sun-tan oil; you must be careful not to over-expose yourself to Sol’s burning rays in the beginning, and you must be careful about wearing dark glasses at all times that you’re facing the direct glare of the sun, in order to prevent tiny ‘squint-lines’ from forming around the eyes.
“Of course, if you’re one of the increasing army of smart women who eschew sun-tan altogether, your problem is simpler, but it’s a problem nevertheless. You must never, never, go out without a protective foundation cream beneath your regular street makeup, as the normal summer sunlight and the soft summer breeze are weighted with tanning properties and even though you

never go near a beach you'll find yourself at least three shades darker than normal if you’re not eareful.
“Therefore, wear a good foundation, use more than your usual amount of powder and keep your face shaded with wide-brimmed hats. (They’re more flattering, anyway). And stay in the shade as much as possible!”

Miss Lindsay Wears Unique Bridal Gown
‘“Public Enemy’s Wife,’’ the latest Warner Bros. picture now atsthe eee Theatre, shows an interesting departure from the tradition that brides must wear white satin gowns.
Margaret Lindsay, featured in the film, appears in a medieval gown of ice blue satin, while her attendants wear delphinium and cornflower blue, with darker halo hats and flowers.
For Sunday afternoons and evenings at the movies, Miss Lindsay wears a printed crepe frock with matching tunic jacket. A white toya hat with grosgrain band, white belt, bag, gloves and shoes com
plete her ensemble.
A perfect frock for the office that can
keep right on to tea after the busi
ness day is over is this black sheer wool
bolero frock with its pert organdie
blouse. This costume lends itself to various changes.

Simplicity is the keynote of Margaret Lindsay’s favorite evening frock, which relies upon its beauty of fabric and classic lines for its distinction. With it she wears crepe sandals of the same
shade.
Miss Lindsay Introduces New Style Frock
Fish net for summer evening wear. That’s the newest style as advanced by the Warner Bros. designer, Orry-Kelly. But it’s a glorified sort of fish-net, half white silk and half silver metal threads, and a frock made of it is posed over a foundation of white satin.

Wear Flowers In Your Hair, Advises Margaret Lindsay

‘‘For flowers can be selected either to match or contrast with
a frock. They make the hair itself look more beautiful and they do grand things for the face. And they can be worn in any number of positions on the head,’ she continued.
“Personally, I think that with hair swept back from the face and off the ears, one of the most becoming ways to wear flowers is to fasten them on the right side just above the ear running toward the crown of the head. Another manner in which I often wear them is to pin a small buneh on each side just at the temple.
“With net and chiffon frocks, the larger flowers usually have more character, as the softer, smaller blossoms have more distinction when worn with. frocks that are sharp and crisp in line. The small flowers thus worn serve to strike a note of femininity.
“Of course, every woman should be careful to select flowers that suit her own type and personality. Nothing would be worse than to see a small, petite girl fairly weighted down with mammoth water-lillies, though this very flower is stunning when gracing the head of a tall, statuesque beauty.
“And on the other hand, a dark vivid type of woman should es
chew the fragile daintier blossoms like valley lillies.
“Therefore, use common sense mixed with your’ enthusiasm when you choose the flowers that you'll wear in your hair tonight —but wear some sort of flowers you must!”
