Most kids own those home-made broom-stick hobby horses, scooters, wagons, etc. Sponsor a contest for these kids and run a race from the center of town up to the front of your theatre. After picking the winner of the race, hold another judging in your lobby. There, you can conduct a special “riding”

Copy reads: “Can you shoot as well as John Wayne in ‘Ride Him Cowboy’ ’’? Illustrate with Western accessories and John Wayne action stills.
JOHN WAYNE | WESTERN CLUB
Start a John Wayne Club and let the kids organize it themselves. Supply them with some stills of the cowboy star, give them a cowboy yell, a secret password; and they'll come a’running every time you have a John Wayne Western playing at your theatre. Some executive work on your part will keep the kids keyed up for the entire series.
ROPING CONTEST IN THE LOBBY
Hold a roping contest for kids and adults in either your lobby or on the stage. Be sure that your rope handlers show all the tricks and put on a good show. Local scout troop probably boasts of some good lariat talent. Promote prizes from local merchants for contest winners.
