Beginning her theatrical career at twelve in London, where she was cast at the Hippodrome in a number called “The Chicken Walk,” she played between times in English pictures, but with indifference.
“The Chicken Walk,” became so famous that the girls who performed it were taken to Paris. There Dorothy Mackaill played in a French film, and didn’t like that any better. Her ambition, then, was to go to America and dance in the Ziegfeld “Follies.” Its attainment led to her first American picture engagement, a role in “Mighty Lak a Rose.” When it was over she declared that far the first time she really liked the movies.
She has appeared in many First National pictures among them being “The Captive Woman,” “Bright Lights,” “Kept Husbands,” “The Reckless Hour,” “Party Husband,” and Warner Bros. “Office Wife.”
