Though the diminutive actress, who plays a starring role in “Scarlet Pages,” the First National and Vitaphone drama now showing at the Theatre, is young in age, her struggle upward from the extra ranks required many years. Born in Superior, Wisconsin, Marian made her first stage appearance in a motion picture theatre prologue in Minneapolis. As a member of a girl’s chorus she left Minneapolis with a vaudeville troupe. She toured the West with this com geles. and Marian crash the studios. received recognition from parts. “The Temple of Venus,” which was soon followed by such pictures as “Kentucky Days,” “Big Dan,” “The il” and “Cunid’s Fireof the Duanes” and “Rider of the Purple Sage” with Tom Mix. She was given a three year contract by Universal and was featured in many pictures with such players as Reginald Denny, Jean Hersholt, George Lewis and others. Her more recent films include “In The Headlines” with Grant Withers, “Say It With Songs” with Al Jolson and “General Crack” opposite John Barrymore. The vaudeville team was known as Flannigan and Edwards. They joined motion pictures together starring in fifteen Hall Room Boys comedies under the direction of Mal St. Claire and Harry Edwards. Flannigan died, while Edwards continued his screen career to become one of the leading comics. He recently appeared in such talking pictures as “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” “The Window Cleaners” with Lew Brice and others.
