But Morgan gets no billing for his trees. DANGEROUSLY suave is Helmut Dantine (above) in his current screen portrayal of Dr. Eric Ryder in Warner Bros.’ "Shadow Of A Woman" at the Strand. Dantine co-stars opposite Andrea King in the film which tells the suspenseful story of a hasty marriage that ends in a breathtaking climax of pursuit and sudden death. MAT 2C Film Star Bestows Unfilmed Kiss As Consolation Prize On the final day of shooting during production of Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” new drama of suspense at the Strand, William Prince kissed Andrea King just twice as long as the Johnston office allows, but the-kiss is not to be seen in the picture. It was presented as aconsolation prize from Andrea King to Prince. In their last film together, “The. Very Thought Of You,” Prince played the role of Andrea’s i R husband, and William Prince received only a Mat ID wifely peck for the job. In “Shadow Of A Woman,” in which they fall in love, he wasn’t allotted even a peck. Helmut Dantine co-stars with the actress in the exciting melodrama which also features a topnotch supporting cast ineluding, in addition to Prince, Don McGuire, Dick Erdman and John Alvin. Fellow Students Are Fellow Players Now Helmut Dantine and John Alvin, both students at the Pasadena Playhouse four years ago, are currently working _ together again. This time it is in Warner Bros.’ mystery, “Shadow Of A Woman,” now at the Strand. Dantine co-stars with Andrea King in the film, while Alvin plays an important featured role. Trees In Warner Drama By Courtesy Of Dennis Morgan The stately pine trees surrounding the mountain lodge in Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” currently at the Strand, were brought from Dennis Morgan’s La Canada estate. When pines were needed for the Andrea King-Helmut Dantine starring film, Morgan offered some of his which needed thinning out. It was a good proposition for all concerned since the studio got their trees and Morgan had necessary work accomplished free of expense. Versatile Warner Star Likes To Vary Roles It took Andrea King a little while to get going, but now tht she’s started it appears nothing’s going to stop her. Andrea, as y ou probably know by this time, is one of Hollywood’s newest and prettiest stars, currently playingthetop role opposite Helmut Dantine in Warners’ “Shadow Of A Woman” at the Strand. Currently, the acress finds herself in this rather unique position: Her pictures, one or another of them, will be on the screen almost continuously for firstrun showings during the next twelve-month period. And that’s a record a lot of far better known screen veterans would like to establish. Few of them have their films running almost consecutively as Andrea King’s will. What’s back of all this? Luck, naturally, plays its part. For instance, right after completing “Hotel Berlin” Andrea was given star rating by Warner Bros. It was a gift based on her performance in that timely picture, and she immediately stepped into the gap in “Shadow Of A Woman,” when another star was unable to fill the top role. To date, Andrea’s studio— Warner Bros.—has_ released three films in which Andrea loomed — “Hotel Berlin,’ “The Very Thought of You” and “God Is My Co-Pilot.” Andrea went out to Hollywood Actor Remembers Music—But Not Where He Heard It “I know that piece well,” Helmut Dantine insisted to his dinner partner at the Bublichki as the orchestra played Marchetti’s “Fantasy.” “But to save me. I can’t think what it is.” Next morning Helmut went to work early to view the previous day’s takes before he was needed on the set during the filming of Warners’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” in which he is currently co-starring with Andrea King at the Strand. He saw and heard himself playing the “Fantasy” on the piano. As the theme music of the picture, Dantine had been playing it over and over. Present Film Role Recalls Old Fears To Veteran Player Lisa Golm, who has specialized in portraying Nazi spies and refugees since her escape from Germany to the United States seven years ago, portrays an American woman, sister of Hédlmut Dantine, in Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” mystery melodrama currently at the Strand. Despite her change of screen nationality, Miss Golm does not escape an emotion she has most often portrayed. Her current role is that of a woman whose actions are dominated by fear. Andrea King co-stars with Helmut Dantine in the film’s expert cast which also features «Dén McGuire, Dick Erdman, John Alvin and William Prince. wants Andrea King Mat IA just a couple of years ago from New York where she appeared in several stage shows, including the hit production, “Life With Father.” She went out not so much to try her hand at pictures as to be closer to the Pacific. She had a tremendous interest in that particular body of water at that time. Her husband was out on it somewhere, as Lieut. (jg) N. H. Willis of the Coast Guard— and he hadn’t been home for well over a year. Andrea, a green-eyed blonde, is not much different, in one respect, from most film actresses. She likes to talk about her work, “What,” she asks, “do I want to do on the screen? Great things of course. Good roles, roles packed with meaning, with good characterization to interpret. “And,” she adds, “I want to be a versatile actress. I want to do mean little roles, sweet roles—yes, I’d even like to take a crack at something in the comedy line. “In other words, I want, when my days in pictures are ended, to look back upon my years in Hollywood and say, ‘It was fun; I played a little bit of everything? 2 The way this 120-pound girl is going now, it looks like she’ll be able to run the entire gamut of the casting office. Personality Might Be Hypnotic —But How Can One Tell? Helmut Dantine was the victim of a rough rib initiated by director Joe Santley and Leah Baird, actress, while presumably hypnotizing the latter for scenes in Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” in which he is currently co-starring with Andrea King at the Strand Theatre. Santley instructed Miss Baird to feign a coma at the end of the scene, which she did. Dantine had a bad five minutes before the director released the patient from her “trance.” In New Film Still No. Dantine 58 HELMUT DANTINE fulfills an exacting screen assignment as a romantic villain in Warner Bros.’ "Shadow Of A Woman," opening Friday at the Strand. Andrea King co-stars opposite him. MAT IG Teamed Still No. 646-542 Andrea King and Helmut Dantine team up for a round of romance and rare suspense in Warner Bros.’ ''Shadow Of A Woman," exciting drama of murder now at the Strand Theatre. An excellent supporting cast includes Don McGuire, Dick Erdman, John Alvin and William Prince. MAT IE Film’s Title Is Too Literal After Difficult Scenes Andrea King, who has to worry if she loses weight instead of gaining it, spent a morning going up and down along stairway for rehearsals and takes for a scene in Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman,” exciting melo dramain which she is currently co-starring Peggy Knudsen with Helmut Mat IB Dantine at the Strand. When director Joseph Santley called “Lunch,” Andrea sank down on the step where she stood. “Whew,” she sighed with relief, “much more of that and I’d have been a_ shadow Of a woman!” The actress will follow up her current film appearance in Warhers’ soon-to-be-released “The Man I Love,” in which she is starred with Ida Lupino, Robert Alda and Bruce Bennett. Tattered Necktie Is Treasured By Actor A torn piece of blue fabric which was once just an ordinary four-inhand is one of Helmut Dantine’s proudest possessions. The necktie was reduced to its present state of tatters by enthusiastic bobby-soxers who greeted Dantine and his current co-star, Andrea King, now in Warner Bros.’ “Shadow Of A Woman” at the Strand, when the pair made a personal appearance tour throughout the East. Says Dantine: “I keep it to remind myself of my bobby-sox-appeal.” io ®
