THE GOOD GIRL Monte Blue in “Skin Deep" frees Alice Lake -4 Warner Bros. Production Production No. 15—Cut or Mat MAKES LIVING BY BEING DEVIL WITH THE LADIES “Specializing in paying attention to other men’s wives or sweethearts is not an avocation, in my case, but a vocation,” says John Davidson, suave and handsome heavy who appears in support of Monte Blue in “Skin Deep,’ Warner Brothers alltalking Vitaphone production now at the Theatre. Davidson has made a business of paying attention toother men’s wives or sweethearts—on the screen. And the vocation pays well and is not a bit hard to take, according to John. In “The Queen of the Night Clubs” in which he made his Vitaphone debut with Texas Guinan, Davidson’s role called for constant attention to Texas. Also, incidentally, to her daughter, the husband in, the case finding out about it in due time. In “Kid Gloves,” Davidson concentrated his attention on Lois Wilson and Edna Murphy. As a member of the all-star cast of “The Time, Place and the Girl,” Davidson had the tables somewhat, turned upon him. His wife gave him a little of his own medicine, but his affianced secretary was not unsusceptible to his wiles. “Skin Deep” calls upon John to use all his bag of tricks with the wife of Monte Blue, played by Betty Compson. He enacts a rival gangster who schemes with the faithless wife to send her husband up the river. Davey Lee, Alice Day, John Bowers, Georgie Stone, Tully Marshall, and others also have outstanding parts in “Skin Deep.” Ray Enright directed from Gordon Rigby’s adaptation of Mark Edmund Jones’ popular magazine story “Lucky Damage.” WOULD YOUR HAND REVEAL YOUR PERSONALITY ? es Hands, artists tell us are of all parts of the anatomy the most difficult to draw—because they denote character. One of the famous paintings of the world portrays two clasped and gnarled hands. It is called “the Praying Hands.” Some hands are weak, others strong, just as faces are. Would anybody recognize you by the way you use your hands even though they could not see your face? In Warner Brothers Vitaphone alltalking picture “Skin Deep” now at the Theatre, in which Monte Blue is starred, an interesting example of hand personality is displayed. In several scenes of the picture, Monte’s face and head are completely swathed in bandages. He is lying in a hospital bed. Only his hands are seen. Several questions are put to him by Alice Day and Tully Marshall, members of the cast. He answers these questions with his hands. Each answer is given in this manner. In fact, the thoughts that run through his mind are brought out by this medium of expression as he is unable to speak through the heavy bandages. Despite the fact that the swathings hide the identity of Monte Blue, the characteristic movements of his hands immediately inform us who he is. Davey Lee, Betty Compson, John Davidson, John Bowers, Georgie Stone, Tully Marshall and others complete the cast of “Skin Deep” which Ray Enright is directing for Warner Brothers. Gordon Rigby prepared the continuity from a Mark Edmund Jones’ story. | WHEN THE PAST IS ONLY A BAD DREAM Production No. SER 16—Cut or Mat BLUE GREAT AS WOUNDED WAR VICTIM IN “SKIN DEEP,” TALKING FILM NOW HERE While part of the world may turn with aversion from those disfigured by war—a munch larger part of it feels reverence for those who have paid so dearly for what they believed to be right.
