PRIZE FOR DESIGN
Contact the head of the homemaking departments in the local schools and offer a prize for the best dress designs handed in by the students. . Display the submitted designs in your lobby, and announce the winner from the stage after a performance. Ducats for the lucky one. Might get local dress shops to tie in, buying winning design, and to donate prizes.
FIND TOWN’S ‘KAY’
Tie up with the leading beauty shop on a “Search for the town Kay Francis.” Girl is selected from the audience at the theatre, and the prize is a complete beauty treatment at the shop—shampoo, wave, manicure and facial. Newspaper might be glad to publish her photograph, with her hair arranged a la Francis. Shop should give contest plenty of ad space.
PACKAGE GIRL BALLY
Send out a girl, loaded down with attractively wrapped dress boxes from various stores in town. She parades the street with them, wearing a sign on her back, reading: “I’m delivering these to Kay Francis, the bestdressed woman in Hollywood, now at
the Strand in “Stolen Holiday.”
SNAPSHOT CONTEST
Invite amateur photographers to submit snapshots of women whose gowns attract their attention. Prizes which can be promoted to those submitting most unusual shots. You can work it from the other angle, too, by publishing one shot each day, and giving ducats to the women whose pictures were taken. Lobby exhibit of the shots should attract notice.
PRIZE WARDROBE CONTEST
Make a three-way tie-up for a fashion contest that should be of interest to every woman in town. Contestants submit a list of the articles that comprise the minimum wardrobe for a welldressed woman, and the price of each article. Newspaper announces the contest, and publishes results each day. All articles on list should be selected from the store or stores tieing up with you, and lists can only be handed in with the purchase of a ticket to your show. The most satisfactory wardrobe at the most economical price wins, of course. Stores should take plenty of ad space on this, and donate the prizes. Entry blank must be obtained from the newspaper, making the tie-up mutually advantageous to all parties.
FASHION SHOW ON TRUCK
For a simple street stunt, have a couple of girls, gowned by one of the department stores, ride through the streets on a sound truck. Truck is bannered with signs reading: “We got our ideas about fashion from seeing Kay Francis in ‘Stolen Holiday’ at the Strand”; “Gowns by Marsh’s Store’; “See ‘Stolen Holiday’ at the Strand and you'll see the 1937 fashions”; “See ‘Stolen Holiday’ at the Strand, then go to Marsh’s for your new clothes.” Park truck on busy corners and have the girls hand out heralds to passersby.
SCRAPBOOK OF FASHIONS
Offer a prize for the best fashion scrapbook. The books should contain clippings from magazines and newspapers showing styles from 1900-1937. The contest is fun for all entering, and savers of old magazines will find it very simple. Give ducats for the five best books, and display entries in the lobby.
TYROLEAN DOLL CONTEST
Tyrolean costumes are a feature of the show, so why not make that the basis for a doll contest? Offer prize (which you should be able to promote) for the doll dressed in the best Tyrolean costume. Dolls will make a swell lobby display, and will certainly bring in the kiddies. Should be good for a couple of newspaper breaks. ‘This contest need not be restricted only to children — older folk ought to go for it in a big way.
STEREOPTICON IN LOBBY
Revive the old stereopticon stunt and give it a new slant by using fashion stills of Kay Francis. Label it with copy to this effect: “Take a peek at fashions for a ‘Stolen Holiday’.” You'll find your women patrons will be lined up waiting for their turns to peek.
