roles.
‘*Stranded’’ is stark drama, although there is comedy re
lief here and there, just as there is humor in every walk of life.
It centers about the life of a worker of the Travelers Aid, who thinks only in the terms of humanity. She is in love with a hard boiled engineer who is building the largest bridge in the world, and who considers human beings only as cogs in an industrial machine.
The clash of characters is the strongest point in the _ story, although the action at times is fast and as thrilling as the wildest melodrama.
Kay Francis in the role of the Travelers Aid worker gives one of her greatest screen characterizations. George Brent is excellent as the unyielding engineer. He seems to live the role and some of the scenes give him the

Victims of Rumor
If something out of the ordinary is printed about a movie star in any newspaper or magazine, she is likely to know it immediately. Floods of clippings come in from everywhere with pencilled comments and questions. —
When Kay Francis was supposed to hold her famous ship party in the Vendome in Hollywood, an item was printed about her acting as hostess although she was suf

Letters poured in to verify this and to criticize her if it was true.
While the story at first escaped Miss Francis’s attention, she checked it and immediately issued a statement saying that she had completely recovered from her illness.
