Free ride can be awarded as prize for one of your contests. FLYING SCHOOLS They can help sell your show by distributing heralds to their students, posting stills on bulletin ences from stage at special matinee for kids. Local editor might be interested in interviewing them for a newspaper feature. Contest can be used in theatre programs and heralds distributed in schools. Also in local newspaper. Award prizes and guest tickets to kids turning the best coloring jobs. HOW TO TELL YOUNGSTERS “The Dawn Patrol” is a story of adventure that will appeal to every youngster in your community. The color contest on this page is one way to tell them about your show. Here are a few more suggestions: ADVENTURE STORY CONTEST: Run similar to the Floyd Gibbons “My True Adventure Contest.” Kids may have had exciting experiences which they would like to put in writing. Award prizes for best ones. PHOTO GIVEAWAYS: You can print up, quite cheaply, ‘action scenes’ from picture on a series of small cards. Distribute them around neighborhood. When kids collect entire series, they get prizes promoted from merchant. LOCAL STORES near schools should be supplied with posters, stills, window cards, etc. And don’t forget to have your imprinted napkins distributed in restaurants and at soda fountains where kids hang out. LOCAL DEALER TIEUPS CLOTHING STORES: The influence of aviation in clothing and other accessories should help you get co-op ads and window displays from department stores. Aviation hats for children, windbreakers for men and women, aviation frocks, jackets, etc. are all possibilities for inclusion in ads. BOOK STORE: There are a number of thrilling stories on aviation which can be displayed in window of book shop together with stills from picture. Copy: “Read these thrilling stories about the heroes of the air—then see Errol Flynn in ‘The Dawn Patrol’ at the Strand Theatre.” TOY SHOP where materials for building model airplanes are sold can devote window and counter space to stills and posters plugging your show. (See game on page 16) GAS STATIONS display signs with this copy: “Men who know good gasoline always order (name of product). See Errol Flynn in ‘The Dawn Patrol’—now at the Strand.” NOTIFY AVIATION CLUBS There are many organizations throughout the country whose purpose is to study and further the science of aviation. For example, the Aviation Cadets Corps of America, National Aeronautic Association, etc. If there is a local chapter of such an organization in town, it should be easy to enlist their support, for they are always anxious to bring their work before the public. If there is no club of this nature in your community, you can be sure that there are enough boys interested in aviation to get one started. Contact Peace Groups Picture can be sold as an instrument for peace. Tie up with peace groups for literature, statistics on war dead, war costs, etc. These can be displayed in lobby together with newspaper headlines showing the trend in international affairs. Perhaps group can supply speaker to lecture on the subject at your theatre.
