Georgianna (Kay Francis) is swimming at Santa Barbara when she discovers Betty (Genevieve Tobin) sitting on a raft with Bob MeNear (George Brent). Georgianna hears them plan to drive up the mountain next day when Betty’s husband will be absent. While Georgianna is swimming and Betty plotting a little escapade, their rooms in the hotel have been looted by Lawrence and Connie Thurston (John Eldredge and Claire Dodd).
Georgianna conspires with a service station attendant and has Betty and Bob sidetracked to her mountain lodge where she and her Aunt Julia (Helen Lowell) are awaiting them. Meanwhile, the pair of crooks get Bob’s car and start mountainward. As a consequence, Georgianna has four callers instead of the expected two.
Georgianna has persuaded her former husband, Ralph Summers (Ralph Forbes) to visit her at her lodge, and he returns to the hotel, after presumably departing on his business trip. His brother Arthur tells him his wife
has gone to Hillerest in the mountains with Bob MeNear, and the two start in pursuit.
They are also sent to Georgianna’s lodge by the service station operator and are received during the absence of the rest by Connie and Lawrence. Lawrence forces Ralph and Arthur to a bedroom, changes clothes with Ralph and assumes the latter’s identity. Lawrence had hidden the jewels in the fireplace of Aunt Julia’s bedroom. That lady had _ recovered them and given them to Georgianna, who in turn, hides them in Betty’s bag.
Police officers, pursuing the two crooks, arrive. They are led by Wink (Spencer Charters) who arrests Georgianna and Bob MeNear for the jewel theft. Enroute to the jail, Georgianna discovers that she doesn’t want her former husband back but is in love with Bob. Betty discovers the jewels in her bag, and the theft is cleared up to the satisfaction of all coneerned. Betty, thoroughly disillusioned by the result of her affair with Bob, happily returns to the arms of her husband.
