The Great Mr. Nobody Gay and Entertaining, To Debut at Strand
There’s a moral to be learned from “The Great Mr. Nobody,” the Warner Bros. film with Eddie Albert, Joan Leslie and Alan Hale, which opens at the Strand Theatre next Friday. It tells, amusingly and poignantly, that “what it takes” to be a hero aren’t bold, magnif-Pe ern +4 actions, but that quiet spirit that even a newspaper advertising salesman can possess.
Accent is on human characterizations in the plot. Joan LESLIE There’s Albert, a dreamy, open-hearted hero-worshipper nicknamed “Dreamy.” His girl friend, Mary, who works on the paper with him, portrayed by Joan Leslie, is sweet and understanding, but she_ gets furious with “Dreamy” for letting everyone step all over him. “Skipper” Martin, played by Alan Hale, is an old landed sea captain who rooms with “Dreamy.”
Lumbering along in his job, the salesman does badly, and he is fired. Later, his boss falls into the bay, “Dreamy” dives in to save him, but has to be rescued himself instead. But “Dreamy” is made the hero — a different kind of hero — and much is in store for him.
