EXPLOITATION
FOR LOBBY & FRONT:
SHADOW BOX DISPLAY: Mount star heads from the stills in your Vitagraph exchange. In background cover cutout of an outstretched hand with transparent paper. Green flasher lights in back go off and on, revealing copy within hand: “Where Will the HIDDEN HAND Strike Next?”
AD MAT 204: Use this for another effective display. Blow up, mount and animate the eyes in the “O's” with an eccentric. Flasher lights will attract attention to the display.
“BEWARE” IDEA: Blow up art from ad 203. Snipe enlargements around wall of lobby with real daggers. Snipe can also be used as basis of teaser campaign around town—fences, poles, throwaways.
LOBBY WALL AND CEILING: Cast shadow of an outstretched hand containing this copy: “Beware the HIDDEN HAND! It chills! It thrills! It kills!” Cardboard hand with cutout lettering set before small spotlight will do the trick.
3-SHEET MAKES THIS: Arrange the figure of the man and hand to pendulum back and forth over the figures below. Copy: “A Houseful of Guests All Marked for Murder by the HIDDEN HAND!”
QUICK-’N’-EASY ONES:
JINGLE CONTEST: Print up the incomplete limerick below for general distribution around town. Guest tickets go to best completed jingles.
Oo! Mama! “The Hidden Hand” will thrill you! It‘ll set your spine tingling and chill you! You'll groan and you'll giggle,
You'll writhe and you'll wriggle,
HORROR STUFF: Just want to remind you about: “Horror Night” at the theatre.
Attendant sells straps to entering patrons: Copy: “Girls, hang on to your boy friends. Fellows hang on to your seats.”
“Nurse” in attendance to care for the weakhearted.
“Rain checks’ for those who are ‘“‘shocked’’ into leaving.
MERCHANT TIE-UPS: Spot “clues” in windows of cooperating dealers with copy: Solve the Mystery of “THE HIDDEN HAND.” Clues might be dagger, rope, flower pot, gun, etc. Guest tickets go to people finding complete set of clues.
TRAILER TRICK: You'll get some extra thrills from the Warner Bros. Trailer by flashing the shadow of an outstretched hand on your screen before showing the trailer. Weird sounds and eerie lights heighten the effect.
