Miasked Mexican as Teaser Gag
Have a man garbed in a Mexican "with a mask covering his face, walk through the streets, around parks and playgrounds with a sign on his back reading:
“THE MAN FROM MONTEREY.”
Have him keep up this teaser interest until he has covered every busy section of your town—and then have him wind up in front of your theatre, where your advertising copy in the lobby informs the crowds that “THE MAN FROM MONTEREY” is the picture starring John Wayne which opens at your theatre that night. This stunt, if done right, should sell plenty of seats.

Here’s a great ballyhoo stunt sure to get you oodles of word-of-mouth advertising. Get an old-time horsedrawn carriage to parade through the town, with the following people on board:
A young man dressed up as a Spanish don, a girl in the outfit worn by Mexican damsels, and a party of peons. You can just imagine the excitement among the inhabitants of your town when they see this picturesque cortege making its way through town. The carriage should be heavily placarded with banners and cards announcing that the party is headed for the Strand Theatre to see “THE MAN FROM MONTEREY.”

the readers are to search. Have the newspaper describe his facial features, his height, weight, wearing
apparel, etc.
Also announce that he will be at certain locations in the town at certain times during the day. Offer eatre passes to all persons who, upon seeing him, walk up to him with a copy—of—the_newsparer. in their hand, and say: “You are the man from Monterey !”
A good idea would be to limit this man-hunt to boys and girls. Publicity stories challenging the detective ability of the kids would be sure to get them all excited. Of course, grown-ups will be sure to read and hear about the stunt too.
