PLATINUM BLONDE OUTSHINES ALL AS VAMP OF THE SILVER SCREEN
(Feature)
So fast do fashions change that Miss Anita Loo’s statement that gentlemen prefer blondes, while true in the main, needs now to be modified to read geneltmen prefer platinum blondes.
There are so many variations of the fair-headed charmer, such as the ash blonde, the golden, the peroxide, the tawny, the tow, that it is necessary to be explicit in describing the arch-blonde of them all —the platinum.
The platinum blonde, as the name suggests, is the expensive type — hard, glittering, alluring, dominating, mistress of all feminine wiles—
half moonlight, half sun-glare —sinuous, soft, f winning— and
= able to coil and recoil on ; occasion.
The day when ithe dark enchantress held the stage—day
Baras, the Nazimovas, and the rest, has passed. This is the day of the platinum petter—this is the time for girls of the type of Jean Harlow— new screen sensation.

Kubee Glasmon and John Bright, who wrote “The Public Enemy,” the Warner Bros. picture now at the Sree Theatre, steered clear of an error which has crept into many earlier films dealing with the life of
the enemies of society, which pic|’ tured them as invariably insensible
to the claims of home.
The authors recalled one of the most ruthless of the recent foes of humanity as a man whose only pleasure, after hours, was his home, his wife and children and his mother. Tt is notably true that women of easy virtue see to it that their children are put in schools where they may be shielded from contamination. This astonishing twist, which makes those who disregard outsiders, foster

“The Public Enemy” Comes to the Theatre Sovecseteaes Next
(Advance Story)
That racketeering, though sometimes profitable, is unfailingly hazardous is brought out starkly in “The Public Enemy,” the Warner Bros. picture which comes to the Theatre next.
In the pursuit of their occupation, two young beer-racketeers portrayed by James Cagney and Edward Woods, meet their end at an early age. This is in keeping with the statement made by Chief of Detectives John Egan, of Chicago, following the famous St. Valentine’s day massacre. He estimated that the average life of a gangster is between thirty and thirty-one years. This estimate was made on the basis of some five thousand gangster deaths during the ten years following the inception of Prohibition.
Of the seven killed in the massaere, the oldest was thirty-eight, while the youngest was twenty-nine. It is rarely that a racketeer remains in the business long enough to approach middle age, and very few attempts to break away from the life have been successful. That is almost as dangerous &@ move as double-crossing.
