Celebration
Just as soon as you have the date definitely set, make arrangements for co-operation of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Units. Opening night attendance in full uniform; a special broadcast of ceremonies; demonstration of marching maneuvers and Signal Corps. Contact paper for names of local Marine Officers now serving in the Marine Corps, display their photos in your lobby and if possible get story in paper. A special showing in honor of local Marine Heroes, for their parents. If this is staged in the right manner, paper breaks will be valuable in getting additional publicity for your picture before opening date.
Handy Line
For Veasers
A majority of your patrons will understand and answer with a smile if you were to use the line: “Dick Powell, The Singing Marine, Has Landed And Has The Situation Well In Hand.” It can

Let's Have A Parade
A good bet on this picture is a big parade to your theatre. Line up the U. S. Marine Post, the Army Post, American Legion, local military academies, Boy Scouts, and other local uniformed outfits, accompanied by a few brass bands. Banners should be spotted along the line of march, carried by your ushers. Suggested copy: “THE SINGING MARINE” HAS LANDED AT THE STRAND THEATRE.” Floats of singing marines, or sound trucks, should be in the line of march.
Discower Local Singing Marine
If military unit is stationed nearby, induce the best singer in the company to appear at the theatre and render a couple of hit numbers from the picture. Title him the “Singing Marine of Company ES ...«? Stunt should get you the full support of the unit itself.
Of course you’re sure to take advantage of this special holiday angle. Plan to run an extra special matinee and midnight show, with gala holiday decorations, parades and military drills; display of fireworks from marquee and special address to audience by Mayor or local organization heads.
Enlisted By Marines
Place an A board out front in your lobby with display of marine equipment and recruiting officer stationed nearby. Devote part of poster to selling your show and the other part to Marine Corps’ advertising. Copy reads: “For Romance, laughs and songs .. . Join The SINGING MARINE. For Thrills and Adventure Join the U. S. Marine Corps.”
Can They Tell aire Emblems? —
i TOHT your Tecal HDrary you can
get copies of the insignias of the various Marine Corp Divisions. Have your artist group them on one frame and place numbers beneath each. Ask patrons to identify the insignia. You might give them a few hints to make it a little easier. Could be worked as newspaper or lobby stunt.
Signals By Searchlight
Powerful searchlights flashed in the sky at night, lend your theatre a spectacular atmosphere. Marine Signal Corps might go through their drill on both sides of the marquee in full view of the pedestrian and auto traffic.
Colors OF All Nations
For inside lobby display, show flags of the various countries hung in rows. Have Marine Post station a uniformed guard nearby to explain the various details of the far-flung U.S. Marine posts. Might have a large map on display to build advance interest.
As an outdoor gag, around the ball parks and amusement parks, get a group of sailors to parade with signs reading: “Even us Gobs Lay Down Our Swabs to See Dick Powell in “THE SINGING MARINE.” Would lend punch if you had sailors singing the hit tunes from the picture.
Flag = Raising Street Bally
If your theatre has a large flagpole you might have one ef your ushers raise and lower the American Flag and then a huge “‘Singing Marine’”’ banner, alternately. The flag raising could be preceded by bugle calls, executed by a uniformed marine. You could work the stunt in a number of key spots around town, with the co-operation of various stores.
