The picture is titled ‘‘ They Call It Sin,’’ a First National production taken from the widely read novel by Alberta Stedman Eagan. It carries an unusual plot, the battle of a small town Western girl for success on the New York stage, and the temptations which are thrown into her path.
She quits her home in the West when she finds that the family which has brought her up, and which has no sympathy for her unusual talents, is not even related to her. Being in love with a young man in New York, who she had met in her home town she goes there, only to find he is about to marry another.
She then goes to work to wrest success from the stage as a musician. The story is dramatie in situation, and highly emotional in the portrayal of the innermost feelings of a young girl in Jove, who becomes reckless when she finds her love can’t be consummated. ’

An important role played by Una Merkel provides the picture with fine comedy touches delivered in that young comedienne’s unique style.
As an essential part of the musical show setting of part of the picture, several songs were specially written and become integral parts of the production. These songs are fast becoming popular hits.
